Helping Australians be the healthiest they can through life-giving biological products like blood, tissue, organs & milk
About us
Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is a division of the Australian Red Cross. We’re an organisation committed to providing life-giving essence to support the everyday well-being of all Australians. We’ll always be there for Australia. Not just by giving blood, but through our clinical excellence, commitment to education and our ongoing investment in research and development. We’re a team of experts who deliver safe, high quality products time and time again. We work tirelessly to develop innovative solutions; whether it be for blood, organ matching, tissue typing or donated breast milk. We’re here to support all Australians — from the youngest to the most vulnerable —when they need us. We’re united through the power of humanity to build a healthier nation. What we do is only possible through the generous donations of almost half a million unpaid voluntary donors. They’re incredible. They’re indispensable. Without them, we can’t deliver the essential services critical to the health of Australians.

Plasma. The golden gift that keeps on giving. Packed with powerful elements, plasma helps treat a wide range of serious conditions. Here are just a few: - Immune disorders: Plasma antibodies are used to create immunoglobulin, a lifeline for people with autoimmune conditions. - Chronic illnesses: Plasma’s clotting factors are life-saving for people with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders. - Emergency care: Plasma supports patients with severe burns, internal bleeding, and surgical complications. - Protecting unborn babies: Anti-D, made from plasma, helps prevent Rh disease during pregnancy. #lifebloodau

Across Australia, we’ve seen the impact of donating blood and right now, Queensland is leading the way! From 1 August to 31 October, Lifeblood Teams from across the state are giving back through the Queensland Government Blood Drive, rallying to support the 1 in 3 people who will need donated blood in their lifetime. Together, we’re making a real difference. #lifebloodau

Double the impact, double the love. Katia made her first donation last year and set out on a mission to bring her loved ones along for the ride. Here she’s celebrating her 20th donation, while her mum proudly marks her very first. Tag your donation buddy or someone who inspired you to start. #lifebloodau

The answer is plasma. And you can give it. What does a plasma donation look like? An hour in the donor chair, snacks to follow and your donation could be used in 18 different ways — from treating brain disorders, to helping people with immune deficiencies and supporting patients during stem cell transplants. Plasma is powerful. Donate today. #lifebloodau

Inspired by a decades-old story of hope, Steve began donating in the 90's after reading about a toddler’s search for a stem cell donor. Today, he’s a regular plasma donor at Nambour, with over 500 donations to his name, including 400 plasma. Along the way, Steve’s built friendships, shared stories, and made memories, all while helping to save lives. #lifebloodau

But first, what’s plasma? It’s yellow, mostly water and a part of your blood that holds all other blood cells. Plasma can be used in 18 different life-saving treatments and Australia needs a new donation every 33 seconds. Share this post so more people can give the power of plasma. #lifebloodau

Our Hero of the Day, plasma-recipient, and air guitar enthusiast Michael Klim is especially pumped about an encore to the collaboration between #Metallica x All Within My Hands Foundation (Metallica) x #Lifebloodau. “Being a Lifeblood ambassador and a Metallica fan, it is so exciting to have these guys join forces and turn up the volume on the importance of plasma and blood donation.” After an incredible response and thanks to the generosity of the band and their foundation, the limited-edition tee is yours to bleed for up to another week - giving even more Aussies the chance to donate and receive the one-of-a-kind merch, while stocks last. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gkh8RKjU Live Nation APAC #MetallicaGivesBack #BleedingMe

Growing blood for tiny patients? It’s happening. Our teams are exploring how to grow red blood cells from stem cells found in umbilical cords. It’s innovation like this that brings us closer to tailored blood for our tiniest patients. #lifebloodau
