While labour shortages, volatile material prices, and contractor insolvencies have already driven repair and rebuild costs up by 27% since the pandemic, there’s another critical factor shaping the landscape: Business Interruption (BI). Recent incidents like the NSW floods and Cyclone Alfred highlight how non-damage disruptions—power outages, road closures, and supply chain delays—can halt operations and raise claim costs, even when no physical damage occurs.
