Proud to speak at the United Nations today and share my story at #COSP18 Eight months ago, I experienced something that changed everything. Today, I stood before delegates from around the world to address a critical gap in how we talk about sexual violence against people with disability. We have words like “paedophile” and “grooming” for those who target children, but when predators specifically hunt disabled people? We have nothing. No language. No recognition. No justice. When I reported my assault to police, this language gap became a weapon against me. I couldn’t articulate that my attacker deliberately chose me because of my disability. Speaking truth to power isn’t easy, but silence perpetuates harm. People with disability face 2-5x higher rates of sexual violence, yet we can’t even name what targets us. Today I called on world leaders to commission research, develop terminology, train law enforcement, and fund education. Because protection demands recognition. Justice requires language.
