IAG urges NSW residents to prepare for severe thunderstorms and stay vigilant against disaster chasers this storm season. Severe thunderstorms are forecast across parts of NSW and south east QLD this week, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain and large to giant hail stones. Executive General Manager of Claims, Luke Gallagher, also warned customers to be aware of disaster chasers this storm season: “It’s a sad reality that disaster chasers act quickly after extreme weather to take advantage of already distressed communities. Knowing how to protect yourself is critical this storm season.” IAG’s claims personnel are ready to support customers impacted by severe storms, with property assessors, partner builders, and NRMA Insurance Help Response Vehicles on standby to be deployed to affected areas. Our IAG New Zealand business is proud to have marked an important step in its cultural journey, unveiling toi Māori (a new Māori artwork) as part of its visual identity. The artwork, Ruaitewānanga (the vessel of learning), created by artist Randal Leach (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Konohi), and our new visual identity, designed by Phila Lagaluga, represent the five guiding principles which underpin IAG New Zealand’s Māori strategy - Te Pae Tawhiti (intergenerational thinking), Whanaungatanga (kinship), Manaakitanga (reciprocity), Kaitiakitanga (guardianship), and Rangatiratanga (leadership). Ruaitewānanga reflects our collective journey and deepening understanding of Te Ao Māori (the Māori worldview), and forms an integral part of building a culture of inclusion, respect and belonging. Today is World Mental Health Day themed “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.” As we continue to see extreme weather events increasing in their severity and frequency, more communities are being impacted by natural disasters causing significant loss and affecting the mental wellbeing of many Australians. In the wake of these disasters, our brands are on the ground helping our customers, working closely with our partners such as Lifeline Australia, Australian Red Cross and GIVIT.org.au who provide immediate support to those in need. We’re proud to support our long-term partner Australian Red Cross this EmergencyRedi Week – a national initiative to raise awareness about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. This year’s campaign highlights a trend of ‘risk complacency’ amongst Australians, providing a timely opportunity to remind all Aussies, no matter where they live, of the vital importance of taking action to get prepared ahead of time. With storm and bushfire risk increasing in the warmer months, spring is an ideal time to get prepared should an emergency strike. This EmergencyRedi week, we encourage everyone to attend a free Australian Red Cross EmergencyRedi Workshop or download the Get Prepared app, co-created by Australian Red Cross and NRMA Insurance, and complete a digital emergency plan.
