Missed our webinar on eating disorders in midlife? This World Menopause Month we joined the Butterfly Foundation for a powerful webinar on issues women face in midlife that often go unseen and unheard. But eating disorders don’t discriminate – they can, and do, affect women in midlife, and it’s time we talk about it. The session features insightful discussions from: ➡️ Dr Sarah L. White, CEO, Jean Hailes for Women’s Health ➡️ Dr Yvonne Chow, Endocrinologist, Jean Hailes Clinics ➡️ Lilian Joyce, Helpline Supervisor, Butterfly Foundation ➡️ Sue Cody, who bravely shared her lived experience with eating disorders. A huge thank you to Ms Rebekha Sharkie, Senator Marielle Smith, Senator Maria Kovacic and Senator Larissa Waters - co-Chairs of the Parliamentary Friends of Women's Health - for hosting a highly engaging discussion this afternoon. Professor Samantha Thomas presented on her group's research study exploring the experiences of more than 500 Australian women going through menopause. This was followed by a deeper exploration of 2 central themes identified by women: misinformation and navigating the online information environment and the caring burden. Jean Hailes CEO Dr Sarah L. White then provided a deep dive into misinformation and disinformation in menopause and the CEO of Violet Ms Melissa Reader provided some of the latest data on the caring burden for the sandwich generation, most of which is falling on women in midlife.

Our new ‘Her Health Check’ tool launched during Women’s Health Week, helping women across Australia find out which health checks they need, and when. Since launch, it’s already been completed over 26,000 times, including 457 completions for First Nations women. That’s 26,000 women now more informed and empowered about their health. Behind those completions are real stories: ➡️ A 25-year-old booking her first cervical screening. ➡️ Someone finally scheduling that overdue mammogram. ➡️ A First Nations woman learning she can access a free 715 health check every year. ➡️ A 45-year-old ordering her first free bowel cancer test kit. These aren’t just numbers – they’re real women making real changes. 👉 Help women in your network take charge of their health. Share the Her Health Check tool with your colleagues, friends, and community today: https://bit.ly/43BH5lF #HerHealthCheck #WomensHealth #HealthChecks

New research from Deakin University is shedding a light on what women really experience during midlife, and it’s not just menopause. The qualitative study explored the lived experiences of midlife women in Australia and found that while menopause played a role, it was just one part of a bigger picture. Many women experienced menopause alongside a host of midlife stressors, including intergenerational caring responsibilities, workplace and career pressures, financial strain, relationship difficulties and declining health. If that wasn’t enough, the study revealed growing concern among women about relentless marketing of menopause products during this vulnerable stage, often promising “quick fixes.” This research reminds us that symptom management alone isn’t enough – we need to address the systemic and social factors that shape women's health and wellbeing. 📖 Learn more about the findings here: https://lnkd.in/gqwwCu2t 🎧 Listen to Professor Samantha Thomas (Deakin University) and Dr Sarah L. White (Jean Hailes) on the Conversation Hour discussing the study results: https://lnkd.in/gyZV9DPy #Menopause #Midlife #WorldMenopauseMonth #WomensHealth

⚠️ Content warning: early pregnancy loss Today’s Herald Sun article from Robyn Riley (https://bit.ly/4hg73Rm) shared findings from our 2025 National Women’s Health Survey on Australian women’s perceptions about the causes of early pregnancy loss. Conducted in partnership with The Pink Elephants Support Network and Early Pregnancy Loss Coalition (EPLC), the survey revealed that many women still believe common myths about early pregnancy loss. Many incorrectly thought that lifting something heavy, using birth control in the past, or eating spicy food could cause early pregnancy loss. These misconceptions matter. Myths and uncertainty around early pregnancy loss can leave women feeling responsible or facing blame from others, exacerbating the emotional impact of the loss. With early pregnancy loss affecting almost 4 in 10 women who have been pregnant, it’s vital that women have access to accurate information, understanding, and support. By improving education and awareness, we can help ensure women are not left feeling at fault for a loss and are empowered to make informed decisions about their health, and the health of their baby, during pregnancy. 🔗 Read the full report: https://bit.ly/4qaaOMe #WomensHealth #Miscarriage #EarlyPregnancyLoss #PregnancyLoss
