I am looking forward to presenting my work from the Tuwe Pamoja project (CLARE Programme) on Thursday 9 October at University of Auckland. Co-hosted by Meg Parsons, School of Environment and Maria Armoudian, Ph.D. Nga Ara Whetu Centre for Climate, Biodiversity & Society. University of Cape Town, African Climate & Development Initiative and University of Auckland are both part of International Universities Climate Alliance, so good to have an opportunity to do this in person, given our usual online engagement supported by Chaseley Cameron and colleagues. I am looking forward to sharing lessons, where of course we have a different contexts, but are all grappling with issues around co-production of climate adaptation options, climate justice, multi-level governance and urban Nature-based solutions.

How can – and should – government work alongside the private sector to accelerate Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) decarbonisation? Take a look at this latest report below | SME decarbonisation in the UK: emerging market trends and their implications for government.
Senior Researcher at the University of Oxford; Research Fellow at the University of Bath; and Senior College Lecturer at Keble College
How can government most effectively unlock SME climate action and support the UK’s Net Zero ambitions? Over the past six months, our research team in the Bath Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change (ISCC) has been working with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to address exactly this question. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are responsible for nearly half the UK’s business-related carbon emissions, but persistent barriers limit their progress even as the private sector is stepping up to the challenge by offering a range of products and services designed to help SMEs decarbonise. Our evidence finds that strategic government intervention is more crucial than ever—not to compete with, but to stimulate and reinforce the growing market for SME decarbonisation support. Government plays a key role as a convenor, market shaper, and provider of policy certainty: from leveraging procurement for wider impact, to targeting support where it's needed most, without crowding out innovative start-ups and service providers.
