Converting low grade agroforestry waste, into high value, renewable gaseous, solid and liquid fuels

About us

Valorify (the trading name for Pacific Heat and Power Pty Ltd) is a developer of quality clean energy assets based on a 'Build. Own. Operate.' model. Our goal is to deliver renewable gaseous, solid and liquid energy commodities for 'hard to abate' sectors of the economy, using proving technology and at utility scale. Our specialty is in bioenergy and waste-to-energy applications, driven by life-cycle principles. We use our own resources and expertise to take on the early stage risk of developing projects from inception through to being 'investable' value propositions, thereafter guiding them through project financing, detailed design, construction, commissioning, ongoing operation and asset management.

Valorify is immensely grateful for the initiative of Jemena in bringing the 'Fuel for Thought' docuseries to life, produced by MSquare Productions in collaboration with the Australian biogas industry. Special kudos to the unflappable and ever-rosy Suzie Jakobovits, and to the deft hand of Alan Simpson in so creatively and clearly highlighting the biomethane value proposition, and seeking to (at last) bring this into mainstream dialogue. We proudly endorse this effort and are pleased to share Episode 1 of this four part series - "Waste not", featuring our own Dr Scott Grierson sharing his passion for the subject, alongside many esteemed industry peers: https://lnkd.in/gwpJqw5b #biogas #rng #jemena #valorify #biomethane #bioenergy #bioenergyaustralia #victorianbioenergynetwork

  • Sincere thanks to the team at RACE for 2030 and the Denmark in Australia/New Zealand - Trade Council for hosting a fascinating webinar on the Danish biogas experience last night. Key takeways: 1. it took 25 years to go from 1% renewable electricity to achieve the 38% penetration in place today in Denmark, despite their leading position in wind; it took only 8 years to do the same with biomethane, and they could be 100% self-sufficient for gas by ~2030! How? Policy alignment to prioritise 'hard to abate' gas users and make better use of biogenic waste in all its forms, leverage of existing infrastructure, and financial support with the right incentives to manage the transition. 2. gas demand overall will drop and it makes sense to electrify low temperature heat where this is practical and affordable, especially at a household level, but combined with an aggressive push to decarbonise the remaining gas supply, we could absolutely become 100% self-sufficient for industrial gas use in Australia with the right settings, in a remarkably short space of time. 3. the energy diversity and security that renewable gas brings, notwithstanding the Circular Economy benefits for nutrient recycling and better management of waste, can have a host of multiplying benefits, especially in regional areas. All in all, compelling and inspirational - let's get cracking Australia!

  • FREE WEBINAR | 8 Oct: Come and join in the conversation and see how Denmark is leading the global biomethane revolution! Hosted by the RACE for 2030 CRC, the Denmark in Australia/New Zealand - Trade Council, Bioenergy Australia & Valorify, hear from the Danish Energy Agency, Energinet, Evida & Ramboll how they've set their nation on a path to 100% green gas self-sufficiency, and how Australia can tap into its vast bioenergy potential to unlock new economic opportunities, boost energy security and accelerate its path to net zero. ICYMI There have been a raft of monumental announcements made by the Federal Government in recent days, including the National Climate Change Risk Assessment, ably complemented by policies supporting LCLFs and importantly, the Net Zero Plan that lays out sectoral based approaches to systematic decarbonisation of the economy, alongside an expansion of the National Reconstruction Fund to support the infrastructure that will deliver the intended outcomes. Bioenergy naturally has a big role to play here and crosses over many aspects of the Net Zero Plan, including the capacity to achieve net reductions in biospheric carbon dioxide, make better use of organic wastes in the agricultural sector and to transform regional Australia. It just makes sense and leverages many of our natural advantages. Valorify welcomes this comprehensive framework and is delighted to see that renewable gas and fuels are embraced equally as part of this approach. We now call on State Governments to deliver on long-awaited incentives for biomethane production, in order to bring forward near term, practical and cost competitive reductions in emissions for 'hard to abate' industrial sectors and processes. https://lnkd.in/eguPfqMc

  • Valorify applauds the work of the Australian Government in drawing attention to the mounting evidence of catastrophic climate impact writ large in our future outlook. This is not a scare campaign, simply a reflection of a legion of disparate government departments and scientists patiently collecting and collating data that paints a picture of the rapid changes that have been forecast for some time, and that we are now experiencing, in real time. In addition to fundamentally altering our way of life, a continuing hesitation or failure to act on the basis of this evidence (let alone continue to question it) hurts our economy and our prospects for wealth creation, impacts our health and will have cascading consequences for insurance, property values, businesses, communities and frankly, unleashes hell for future generations any way you look at it. We sit on a colossal base of infrastructure money held in trust as superannuation in this country, much of which is inherently risk-averse and wired by mandate to only focus on 'steady state returns'. While I understand the reasons for this - after all, it's essentially investing the retirement savings of millions of people - the time for 'playing it safe' is past. We need to find a way to unlock even a small portion of these trillions to take the leaps required to transform our energy system into something that will allow our nation and our children to have a future worth contemplating. This will require courage and genuine expediency in policy, an embrace of energy diversity and a multitude of solutions, and the mobilisation of serious risk capital to enable new solutions to emerge and rapidly advance. Otherwise, new technologies and new ventures will fail, and the low carbon solutions we need to see prosper and achieve scale will stall or wither on the vine, as will our way of life itself. It's time to get real. It's time to be bold. It's time to get out of the consultation phase. Amongst many of the renewable energy pathways we need to be pursuing with gusto, it's time for biogas in Australia to be given a serious boost!

  • Did you know that organic waste is a major source of fugitive methane emissions? According to Charlotte Morton, CEO of the World Biogas Association, "Humans generate over 105 billion tonnes of organic waste globally every year, releasing harmful methane and other greenhouse gas emissions as they decompose. However, today only 2% of organic waste is treated and recycled." Biogas is a central strategy that can turn this figure around, with anaerobic digestion technology helping to reduce methane leakage, and able to deliver as much as half of the 30% reduction in global methane emissions targeted under the Global Methane Pledge by 2030. Furthermore, Alexander Eaton, CEO of Sistema.bio, believes that, "biogas is one of the single most effective development solutions because it is supporting waste treatment, energy access, human health and agricultural productivity,” he said. “The climate benefits of biodigesters are really clear, proven and supported by all the major methodologies." He goes on to say, "The reason biogas is so interesting is because the process of destroying methane produces energy, so it doubles the climate benefit." We couldn't agree more and Valorify is excited to see the continuing growth of the biogas sector globally, for all of the contributions it makes to improving livelihoods and reducing waste, while contributing materially to greenhouse gas reductions across a range of developing and developed country applications, including in domestic heating and cooking, industrial manufacturing and transport.
