Women's Health Victoria has had a fantastic week in Canberra. We met with Ministers and MPs to share our research and sector insights - including strengthened access to sexual and reproductive health services, gender-responsive cancer care, national leadership to tackle reproductive coercion and abuse, the Women Deliver Conference 2026, and reform to address gender bias in Medicare. Through our evidence and advocacy, we’re shaping policies that deliver fairer healthcare for all women and gender diverse people. Our work is centred in Victoria, but its relevance and importance extends nationally. We are looking forward to continuing to collaborate closely with the Commonwealth Government. Whatever it takes to reach gender equity in health.
About us
Women’s Health Victoria is a statewide, feminist, not-for-profit organisation working with government, the health sector, and the community to improve health outcomes for women (cis and trans inclusive) and gender diverse people. We know that health looks different for everyone, yet women and gender diverse people still face deeply rooted challenges when accessing equitable care, from a health system that was never built for, or with, them. We are focused on addressing areas of health inequity including sexual and reproductive health, mental health and wellbeing, cancer, and other barriers to living a healthy life like gendered violence, sexism, and misogyny. Our range of services, resources and initiatives include: - 1800 My Options, a free, confidential phone line and online resource providing sexual and reproductive health information - Counterpart, our peer support service for women with cancer - The Labia Library, an award-winning collection of real vulva images - The Victorian Women’s Health Atlas, an interactive tool that delivers current data on key women’s health indicators - shEqual, an Australian-first movement for gender equality in advertising - The Women’s Mental Health Alliance, that provides expert advice to policymakers and health services - In My Prime, an online health and wellbeing resource that celebrates older women. Since 1993, we have been advocating and supporting women and gender diverse people and we will continue to do whatever it takes to reach gender equity in health.

Today is the last day of Mental Health Awareness month, and we know mental health care must be inclusive, equitable and gender-responsive. Access to care that understands your lived experience is crucial when it comes to your wellbeing. But for many women and girls, that care is still out of reach. Gendered violence, financial stress and unpaid care work contribute to higher rates of anxiety, depression, eating disorders and trauma — yet the system often fails to respond. At Women’s Health Victoria, we’re working with government and the sector to embed inclusive, equitable and gender-responsive reform. Meet Hardeep Kaur (she/her) – an enthusiastic student intern for the past few months at Women’s Health Victoria. Hardeep is currently completing her Master of Public Health (Global Health and Advocacy) at Australian Catholic University. During her placement she has been working on a discussion paper about gender equity in mental health by contributing to a comprehensive literature review, exploring what gender-responsive mental health care looks like in practice, and identifying approaches for system-wide reform. Her work reflects a strong commitment to improving mental health for women and advocating for equitable, gender-informed care across the health system.
