🔔New report alert: How could Government and providers improve the lives of 3.6 million Australians (that’s 1 in 6 of us) who live with hearing loss AND build a healthier, more productive nation at the same time? The Business Council of Australia (BCA) has just released “Supporting a Healthy and Productive Nation” — examining how our health system can support us to meet the challenges of the future. I’m proud that Cochlear has contributed to this work, particularly in two areas close to our mission to help more people to hear: 🔊 Hearing Health Reform Hearing loss, especially age-related hearing loss, is often unrecognised and untreated, resulting in delayed treatment. Most Australians who could benefit are still missing out on timely treatment. Looking after hearing can help you keep your mind sharp. When we hear better 👂, it’s less strain on our brain. 🧠 The report calls for actions including: * Routine hearing screening for Australians aged 50+ * Nationally consistent cochlear implant referral criteria, e.g., the 60/60 rule for hearing health professionals to simplify referrals (more info for professionals here: https://lnkd.in/ggMsZ7CC) * Expanded public funding for cochlear implants — currently reaching only ~11% of eligible adults 🧪 R&D and Innovation Cochlear is also featured as a case study in the report’s call to unlock Australia’s R&D potential.
