New Medibank partnership to prevent type 2 diabetes   Today at the Australasian Diabetes Congress I was proud to launch our exciting new research partnership with leading health insurer Medibank, to tackle the rise in type 2 diabetes head on.   We’ve teamed up to co-fund the Medibank and Diabetes Australia Research Award - a $200,000 two-year investment to fast-track innovative, evidence-based interventions to prevent type 2 diabetes in high risk and priority populations.   It is one of a number of new initiatives that we'll be announcing over the next few months as part of our Diabetes Australia Research Strategy 2025–2030 — to turn bold research into real-world solutions.    We have an outstanding diabetes research community in Australia. By investing in research that targets high-risk and under-served communities, we can help ensure that everyone has the chance for a healthier future.   With more than 1.3 million Australians living with type 2 diabetes and another person being diagnosed every 8 minutes, we need to work together to find solutions.  The evidence shows that when type 2 diabetes prevention initiatives are targeted to those at greatest risk, around 58 percent of cases can be prevented or delayed. I am really excited by the opportunities our partnership with Medibank presents. We hope to drive ground-breaking research to reduce the burden of type 2 diabetes on individuals, communities and our health system.
