The Australian Government Department of Education has released their 2026 National Research Infrastructure (NRI) Roadmap Issues Paper, seeking input on the path forward for the infrastructure that underpins Australia’s sovereign R&D capability. The paper synthesises findings from the 2026 NRI Roadmap consultation survey. This is a key opportunity to shape decision-making for the infrastructure enabling research across sectors, including industry research. It’s encouraging to see private hospitals being financially rewarded for making meaningful improvements to the patient experience.   Today’s announcement from the Australian Health Service Alliance is a great example of how our competitive hospital contracting system is incentivising quality of care, rather than just volume of patients over time.   By incorporating value-based healthcare measures into hospital performance evaluations, patients are placed at the centre, and providers gain clearer insights into where they’re doing well and where they can improve.   As part of AHSA’s initiative, some hospitals have introduced tangible changes to improve their patient’s care, such as:   - Personalised pre-admission processes - Enhanced communication during and after hospital stays - Collaboration with consumer advisory committees to bring the patient voice directly into service design.   We’ve long championed the importance of value-based care, to create safer, more productive incentives in healthcare so it’s fantastic to see this in action. Congratulations to Andrew Sando and the AHSA team.   Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gYggacgR

A Wake-Up Call - | Embed Prevention Across the System & LHDs Must Step Up on Primary Care | NSW Health Special Commission of Inquiry into Healthcare Funding The recently released Special Commission of Inquiry into Health Funding delivers two urgent and unavoidable truths: 👉🏼 Prevention must be embedded across all parts of the State health system 👉🏼 Inefficient primary care leads directly to overloaded and underperforming hospitals The report exposes the consequences of neglecting prevention — policy gaps, lack of strategy, and underinvestment. It’s a strong call for major structural reform. One quote from page 56 captures the deep frustration many of us feel: “Long term health reforms outlined in NHRA with aspirations for shared intentions and work in partnership towards a nationally unified - locally controlled health system is just words on paper.” That rings especially true for those of us working in rural and remote areas, where good intentions often fail to reach the ground. The Inquiry’s message is clear: 👉🏼Primary care must be accessible, equitable, and integrated into rural LHDs 👉🏼LHDs can no longer hide behind the State–Federal divide. In otherwise unsustainable settings, they must step in to support primary care and aged care. NSW Health is a strong, world-class system — but it’s also inherits inefficiency. Gaps in public health and primary care create massive waste and poor return on investment. As our population ages and chronic disease rates soar, the current system will simply not cope. 🛠️ Time for courageous reform. Prevention isn’t a luxury — it’s essential infrastructure for a sustainable future.
