It is my pleasure to share the latest research on Solid State Transformer (SST) protection. The research "Enhanced Protection of Grid-Connected Solid-State Transformers Against Sympathetic Inrush Current" is published in IEEE Transaction on Power Delivery, Vol 40, Issue 4, Aug 2025, pp 2289-2299, doi: 10.1109/TPWRD.2025.3575185. This research addresses the impact of SIC on SSTs and developing a mathematical model to simulate Sympathetic Inrush Current (SIC) events in grid-connected SSTs. The relationship between the peak value of the SST input current and the phase shift angle of high-frequency transformer (HFT) voltages is established, providing key insights into the root causes of overcurrent stresses. To mitigate these stresses, a novel Phase Shift Angle Control (PSAC) algorithm is proposed. This technique dynamically calculates the second harmonic during SIC events on a per-cycle basis, enabling precise control and effective mitigation of the current surge. The PSAC algorithm’s effectiveness is demonstrated through both simulations and experimental validation.

⚡☀️ Step by Step Implementation of 100 kW Three Phase Grid Connected Solar PV System in MATLAB/Simulink 🌍🔋 The transition to clean and sustainable energy is powered by large-scale grid-connected solar PV systems. The absence of low-frequency transformers contributes to improved efficiency and reduced size compared to other topologies; however, there are concerns about leakage currents. The common ground (CG) connection in PV inverters is an attractive solution to this issue, as it generates a constant common-mode voltage and theoretically eliminates the leakage current. In this context, multilevel CG inverters can eliminate the leakage current while achieving high-quality output voltages. Nonetheless, achieving simultaneous control of the grid current and inner capacitor voltages can be challenging. Furthermore, controlling the capacitor voltages in multilevel inverters requires feedback from measurement sensors, which can increase the cost and may affect the overall reliability. To address these issues, this paper proposes a model predictive controller (MPC) for a CG multilevel inverter with a reduced number of sensors. While conventional MPC uses a classical multi-objective technique with a single cost function, the proposed method avoids the use of weighting factors in the cost function. Additionally, a sliding-mode observer is developed to estimate the capacitor voltages, and an incremental conductance-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is used to generate the current reference. Simulation and experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed observer and MPC strategy. Special thanks to Felipe Grigoletto and Kelwin, the main authors in this paper!

Yet, they form the backbone of both logic circuits and analog building blocks.
