My thesis explores the extent to which factory workers in Vietnam use the state's labour law to resist against their management. It adopts a socio-legal approach to understand how workers' ideas and values about justice are shaped by labour law, or other experiences and discourse different from legal ideas and language. This book develops an understanding of workplace justice and labour rights in Vietnam from factory workers’ voices and their resistance against abuse and exploitation. Through interviews with workers and a close analysis of their letters and petitions to the unions and state authorities, Nguyen illuminates how workers’ resistance is enabled and stifled by the legal and political systems that are supposed to protect their rights and benefits. Their calls for justice reflect socialist ideology and widely held norms within society, as well as ideals and values embedded in labour law. The book demonstrates how state law brings about social change through shaping workers’ expectations and increasing consciousness of rights and justice.
This book will be of interest to scholars of law, politics and society, and scholars, students and practitioners interested in labour rights in developing countries.

I am working on a book manuscript that explores the everyday politics of law and precarity in Vietnam. This book argues for an investigation of law in everyday life that places peoples’ experiences of precarity at the heart of the analysis. It understands precarity as individual experiences of vulnerability and uncertainty, grounded within broader social, legal and political processes.

It understands precarity as individual experiences of vulnerability and uncertainty, grounded within broader social, legal and political processes.
This book demonstrates that precarity influences the way people perceive, engage with, or resist the law; yet at the same time law creates and reinforces such condition. This mutually reinforcing dynamic between law and precarity highlights the enabling and sanctioning effects that law can bring to bear on ordinary people’s lives, that is, by giving them the opportunity to achieve more security and stability, but ending up making their life worse rather than better.
This book will appeal to law and society scholars, political economists, and scholars interested in Asian studies and authoritarian politics.

More than 360 Grampians Health staff have boosted their digital skills in healthcare, thanks to a partnership involving Health Transformation Lab, Cisco, and RMIT's College of Vocational Education. Nithya Gopu Solomon, Director of the Lab, said the initiative has equipped healthcare workers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to explore digital technologies, such as cyber security, emerging technologies and IT networking. "The healthcare sector is undergoing a digital revolution at an unprecedented scale and pace,” Nithya said. “To truly tap into the available technology and see the benefits, we need to rapidly build capability in key skillsets and knowledge.” Nicholas P., Director of Future Technologies at RMIT’s College of Vocational Education, said the program exemplified RMIT’s leadership in developing ‘Earn and Learn’ partnerships with industry. “It allows learners in the healthcare sector to study at their own pace and build skills that are useful for their particular job,” Nick said. “Because these are scalable, digital products, we can branch them out to any particular hospital.” The project was made possible through the Victorian Government's Skills Solutions Partnerships initiative and a partnership formed via the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN) Health Alliance.
