Insights from #BIOEUROPE2025 - connecting innovation, impact, and policy This week in Vienna, the BioWin team - David Honba and Loïc Germain - joined peers from across Europe to discuss how collaboration can help bring new health innovations to patients faster. 🧬 ATMPs, from lab to patients. In the session “Wallonia Belgium’s ATMP Ecosystem: Innovation in Action,” we explored concrete ways to advance Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) from research to manufacturing and clinical application: aligning early CMC strategies, adopting data-driven processes, and sharing know-how across companies and institutions. 🌐 Policy that enables, not just regulates. During an international clusters roundtable, discussions on legislation for innovation highlighted a recurring idea: clearer, more predictable frameworks - with early dialogue and digital tools - help smaller innovators navigate complexity and scale faster, ultimately benefiting patients and health systems. We come back from Vienna with new perspectives, valuable learnings, and renewed connections - proud to have represented Wallonia’s vibrant health ecosystem alongside our member companies and partners. Thank you to all who contributed to the meaningful conversations, and to our colleagues at Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) - Jean-Philippe Schklar, Terence Zeyer, DANTINNE MARIE ANNE, and Ludovic Waha - for their collaboration throughout the event. Let’s keep turning shared insights into shared impact. #BioWin #Biotech #HealthInnovation #Policy #Collaboration #Vienna #Wallonia #LifeSciences

💥 A world first in Belgium! Patients can now take the lead in clinical research thanks to The Patient Voice Database, a groundbreaking platform co-created by the Patient Expert Center and Curewiki. This digital bridge connects patients directly with clinical research, making participation simple, secure and empowering. “We’ve turned the paradigm around. Researchers no longer have to look for patients, patients now find their way to research,” says Stefan Gijssels, Chair of the Patient Expert Center. “Already, more than 16,000 Belgians are registered on the platform, which is free, secure, and fully GDPR-compliant,” adds Jean-Sébastien Gosuin, founder of Curewiki. “Our ambition is to keep growing this ecosystem together with hospitals and patient organisations, and to extend it across Europe.” 👉 Read the full release: https://lnkd.in/eGHsfbf3

Belgium invests heavily in research and innovation, as seen in the numerous spinouts and startups with brilliant potential. But as they grow, many reach a point where local support isn’t enough. They look beyond Europe for manufacturing, clinical trials, and funding. So how can Belgium close this gap and help our companies stay and scale here at home? At Science for health 2025 on 4 November in Brussels, Jerome Van Biervliet (VIB/Biovia) will tackle this challenge in his keynote: “Rooted for Impact: Keeping Innovation and Investment in Belgium.” He explains that the key lies in bigger venture funds, regulatory alignment, local manufacturing, and faster, data-driven clinical trials, because: "Together, we can show Europe how it can be done." Join us to see how Belgium is shaping the future of advanced therapies by turning collaboration into impact.
