Congrats to President Ursula von der Leyen and President Trump for taking an important step toward stability and transatlantic alignment. Yesterday’s EU–US agreement is a positive signal for deepened cooperation in key strategic sectors like tech, energy, and defence. In the face of accelerating global uncertainty, alignment with our closest ally is essential and this deal lays an important foundation. For Europe’s tech sector, the focus on collaboration over confrontation is encouraging. Still, the agreed 15% tariff cap, while lower than previously feared, remains a significant burden on both economies. This cannot be seen as a win for either side. We should keep working together to reduce it over time. Let’s now focus on ensuring this momentum drives competitiveness, openness, and shared growth. Tech must remain a core pillar of the EU-US partnership, because only a strong transatlantic alliance can ensure trusted innovation, global standards, and democratic leadership. Very apropos - among a wide range of valuable meetings I had in Washington this week, I especially want to highlight the insightful exchanges with USTR’s Bryant Trick and his team, as well as with the newly appointed Bill Guidera and his colleagues at the International Trade Administration (U.S. Department of Commerce).   There is real potential for us to collaborate on the technologies that will shape our future competitiveness and security. Thank you not only for your time, but also for sharing your insights and vision.  Thanks also to the Transatlantic Policy Network (TPN) for excellent exchanges and to Google for a wonderful reception and a thought-provoking immersive art experience.

The US Government just released its AI Action Plan, a strong, innovation-focused strategy that Europe should watch closely. At DIGITALEUROPE, we welcome this clear commitment to boosting AI deployment, cutting regulatory red tape and building future-proof infrastructure, while keeping cybersecurity and industry competitiveness at the core. 👉 Many of these priorities are similar to the direction of the European Commission. The EU and US face some of the same challenges.  The US acts with speed and Europe is not standing still either. The Commission is advancing efforts on AI adoption and data centre permitting. We recommend to continue to:  ✅ Remove AI regulatory barriers: Streamline, harmonise and scale across the EU.  ✅ Prioritise innovation, procurement and fast deployment.  ✅ Invest in talent: Start teaching AI and digital skills from school, not just university.  ✅ Keep global markets open: Work with allies to align on trusted, innovation-friendly trade rules. We are closely following the US Department of Commerce’s upcoming AI export control initiatives. It’s important that any new measures are carefully designed to avoid unintended impacts on trusted partners like the EU. The EU and US share a deep security and trade relationship, and tech must remain a core pillar of that partnership. 🤝 A strong EU-US tech alliance is more important than ever to ensure trusted innovation, global standards and democratic leadership in AI. Let’s make this a transatlantic moment for innovation. Together we can win the tech race!

🚨 Europe’s €800bn investment gap can’t wait until 2028. Today’s #MFF proposal is a step forward: it promises to reduce the number of funding programmes from 52 to 16, making things easier for beneficiaries, more focused on results, and quicker to manage. But we need action NOW to boost digital & critical tech. 📊 Digital must get 25% of the EU Budget, not just 7%.
