14 new projects have been selected for EU funding to strengthen the European Research Area!
They will receive €29 million in EU funding to support early-career researchers, enhance public engagement with #science, and promote the uptake of #research results in society and the economy.
The projects have been selected by independent evaluators after applying to three competitive Horizon Europe calls for proposals, funded under the 'Reforming and Enhancing the EU Research and Innovation System' programme. Here are the projects selected per grant:
➡️ ‘Science comes to town’: 1 project will receive €6 million.
The project will transform three European cities into interactive science hubs, allowing citizens to connect with researchers and explore how science impacts daily life. The selected cities are: Brest (France), Kiel (Germany), and Split (Croatia). They will host in 2026 a year-long programme of science engagement which will also include the European Contest for Young Scientists (#EUCYS) and the European Contest for Early-Career Researchers, #EUTalentOn.
➡️ ‘Talent ecosystems for attractive early research careers’: 10 projects set to receive €20 million.
These projects are expected to provide early-career researchers with better working conditions in line with the European Charter for Researchers, and career prospects by strengthening cooperation between academia, industry, and other sectors.
➡️ ‘Experimentation and exchange good practices for value creation’: 3 projects are sharing €3 million.
The projects will explore ways to accelerate the transfer of scientific knowledge into practice for the benefits of society and the economy. They will foster cooperation among academia, industry, SMEs, public authorities, policymakers, civil society, and citizens.
🔹 Next steps:
The selected projects will now prepare the signature of their grant agreement with the European Commission. The selected projects will now move towards the grant agreement preparation phase. Once grants are signed, projects will start. They are expected to start their activities as of November 2025.
The new selected projects are managed by the European Research Executive Agency (REA).
