 🏛️ The EU has taken steps to address energy poverty, but one major gap remains: youth are often invisible.  ⚠️ The Social Climate Fund (2027) doesn’t recognise young people as a vulnerable group, and the lack of age-specific data keeps their needs out of policy. That’s why the Global Call to Empower pushes for youth inclusion through the Youth Energy Poverty Report and Funding Fairer Futures — calling for efficient rentals, targeted support, and green job pathways. ⏰ With National Social Climate Plans being drafted and the EU Housing Task Force starting in 2025, youth voices must shape tomorrow’s policies today. 👉 Want to know how these policies could better support young people? 🌡️ Winter is coming – and with it, a harsh reality: many young Europeans cannot afford proper heating, lighting, or cooling. This is youth energy poverty, and it’s a growing crisis. 📊 According to our survey, 75% of young people across the EU see energy poverty as a major issue. The trend is clear: where overall energy poverty is high, it disproportionately affects youth. Yet, policies rarely collect age-specific data, meaning youth struggles remain hidden. ❌ This invisibility makes it harder to design policies that address their real needs. 👩🎓 Young people are not officially recognised as a vulnerable group in the EU’s Just Transition framework or in energy poverty discussions. But the reality is clear: youth are disproportionately affected. That’s why GCE is taking action. We: 📖 Published the Energy Poverty Among Young People report, highlighting how youth are disproportionately vulnerable to rising energy costs. 📣 Issued a Social Climate Fund statement, calling on EU Member States to provide targeted support for young people. 🗣️ Advocate for youth recognition as a vulnerable group in EU Just Transition and energy poverty policies to ensure they are not left behind. ✨ Our message is clear: a Just Transition must include youth, not treat them as invisible #GenerationClimateEurope #JustTransition #EU #ClimateAction #ClimateJustice #YouthVoice
