By the end of the decade, 3D NAND flash technology, which is used as our most popular storage medium, will probably feature material stacks comprising an impressive 1,000 layers. One way to control the associated process complexity and costs is to reduce the pitch between layers, or z-pitch scaling.   But how can we unlock z-pitch scaling without compromising the memory’s performance? In this article, imec’s Sana Rachidi and Maarten Rosmeulen shed light on the key technologies that will enable z-pitch scaling for the next generation of 3D NAND flash: airgap integration and charge trap cut. How can chiplet-based automotive compute architectures accelerate the automotive industry?   On November 14th, imec joins the Automotive Computing Conference in Munich, with Bart Placklé, Vice President Automotive at imec, taking the stage as both panellist and speaker. Discover imec’s vision for next-generation automotive compute and its advanced automotive chiplet integration, chiplet-based high-performance compute architectures, and next-generation automotive semiconductor technologies, enabling smarter, safer and more affordable mobility.   Imec also aims to play a leading role in defining the future of automotive compute by bringing together leading players from the automotive ecosystem in an open Automotive Chiplet Program (ACP).   “At ACC 2025, we’ll explore how interface standardization can unlock cost-competitive chiplet solutions. Initially, our focus was on convincing the industry to pivot to chiplets. Today, that’s no longer necessary. The value is clear. But for chiplets to truly “fly” (or drive), seamless interoperability is essential." During our Partner Technical Week, we hosted an inspiring session that put the spotlight on women driving innovation in the semiconductor industry. The session was moderated by Katrien Marent and both female and male voices joined the discussion. From early-career professionals to senior experts, our speakers shared honest reflections on the challenges and opportunities in building a more inclusive tech ecosystem. The message from Diksha Moolchandani resonated deeply: “To all the women who are entering this field: your journey may not be easy, but it is yours. So you need to own it. Let your perseverance, your curiosity and your courage define your competence. Because when one woman breaks barriers, she opens doors for many more.” Thank you to all speakers, Francesca Iacopi, Kathleen Nafus, Diksha Moolchandani and Steven Bentley for your openness, authenticity, and commitment to shaping a more diverse and innovative industry together. Because after all: innovation needs diversity and diversity needs allies.
