We explored how Europe can reclaim control over web search and knowledge access through open infrastructure and data sovereignty: 🔹 Sara Garavelli (CSC - IT Center for Science) opened the day with a compelling case for European search independence. 🔹 MEP Alexandra Geese laid out the policy rationale for an Open Web Index and data infrastructure. 🔹 A panel featuring Cartier Emmanuel (EC-JRC), Per Öster (CSC - IT Center for Science), Jan Hajic (OpenEuroLLM), and Wolfgang Oels (Ecosia) brought real-world use cases to life. 🔹 Leaders from Mastodon, MURENA, and BDVA - Big Data Value Association joined Stefan Voigt (Open Search Foundation & DLR) to discuss how open tech stacks can support sovereignty at scale.
