🌍 The Local Leaders Forum in Rio de Janeiro, co-hosted by the COP30 Presidency and Bloomberg Philanthropies, has ended, marking a powerful milestone on the road to #COP30. Over the past 3 days, nearly 3,000 mayors, governors, and subnational leaders from more than 120 countries came together in Rio. The Forum sent a clear message: it’s time to move from pledges to action. Subnational leadership and strong multilevel governance are key to effective #adaptation, while direct access to #finance will empower subnational governments to scale up solutions that drive innovation, create green jobs, and create sustainable growth. Inspiring examples of regional action we've heard this week: 🌾 In Manabí Province, Ecuador, the Producers’ School program empowers farmers to adopt eco-friendly practices and sustainable productivity, proving that competitiveness and care for the planet can go hand in hand. 🌱 In Cameroon West Region, local governments and communities are restoring Mount Mbapit’s crater ecosystem through reforestation, wildlife protection, and responsible ecotourism. 🔥In Cross River State, Nigeria, the Sustainable Fuelwood Management initiative combines agroforestry, clean cookstoves, and community-led reforestation to prevent deforestation, protect biodiversity, and create green jobs. 💧 In Azuay Province, Ecuador, a participatory wetland restoration program, safeguards vital water sources while promoting gender inclusion, green livelihoods, and community-led stewardship - aiming to restore 50 wetlands by 2030. These initiatives show how regions are driving real change - protecting nature, empowering people, and shaping a resilient future. We extend our gratitude to our leadership for their support, to our regions for their active participation, and to our Vice-President for the Americas, the State of Rio de Janeiro, represented by Governor Cláudio Castro, for graciously hosting us in Rio de Janeiro. The message from Rio is clear: the path to COP30 Brazil runs through local leadership. Subnational leaders are delivering - now it’s time to match ambition with action. #Regions4 #Regions4COP30 #Regions4Climate #RegionsVoice #RegionsLeadingAction #RegionsAdapt #COP30 #COP30Brasil #ActionAgendaSolutions #MutirãoCOP30 #JustResilience #COP30Amazonia #Belém2025 #ClimateChange #BalancoEticoGlobal #GlobalEthicalStocktake #Regions

🌍 The Joint Statement of the #COP30 Local Leaders Forum is out! Today in Rio de Janeiro, Regions4 joined local and regional leaders from around the world to call on national governments attending #COP30 in Brazil to raise their #climateambition. Together, more than 14,000 cities, states, regions, and devolved governments launched a Joint Statement of support, urging stronger collaboration with subnational governments to accelerate climate action. 🤝The Statement was endorsed by Regions4 leadership: The Scottish Government, Governo do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Regione Lombardia and Conseil régional de Rabat-Salé-Kénitra . Climate adaptation is not optional - it’s a matter of survival and climate justice. To meet this challenge, national governments need strong local partners. Subnational governments, closest to communities and territories, are vital to turning ambition into results, advancing the health, affordability, security, and resilience of communities while helping countries achieve their national goals. Our message is simple. We can only deliver on global climate goals together. Local leaders commit to: 1️⃣ Helping countries achieve their national climate goals as partners in implementing and promoting a just and resilient transition 2️⃣ Help localize and channel climate finance for both mitigation and adaptation 3️⃣ Advancing multilevel action and collaboration To the world leaders gathering in Belém next week: you can count on us. Local leaders are ready to join you in a true global #mutirão, working side by side to turn ambition into action and promises into progress. 🔗 Full statement: https://lnkd.in/eR6ZH7YH #Regions4 #Regions4COP30 #Regions4Climate #RegionsVoice #RegionsLeadingAction #RegionsAdapt #COP30 #COP30Brasil #ActionAgendaSolutions #MutirãoCOP30 #JustResilience #COP30Amazonia #Belém2025 #ClimateChange #BalancoEticoGlobal #GlobalEthicalStocktake #Regions

🔵Today was a key day for regions. Subnational governments - states, provinces, and regions - took center stage at the Global States & Regions Summit Day, convened by the Under2 Coalition, supported by Regions4 and partners. This dedicated day for regions set the pace and tone for the urgent climate action the world needs. #Adaptation and #resilience have been at the heart of today’s conversations - essential pillars for human survival in a climate-altered world. Regions4 led the session on “Resilient Territories: Infrastructure, Water, and Climate Adaptation”, moderated by Jordan Harris, Executive Director of Regions4, bringing together governors, premiers, and experts to exchange strategies on climate adaptation, inclusive governance, and collaboration with Indigenous peoples. 💬 "Adaptation is no longer a secondary choice after mitigation and should be at the core of sustainable development. Integrating adaptation into local and regional planning, ensures action that is more efficient, inclusive, and people-centered", said Jordan Harris. 💬 Representing Regions4 Vice-Presidency for the Americas, Bernardo Rossi, Secretary of State for the Environment and Sustainability of Rio de Janeiro, shared how the state is advancing concrete climate actions to protect communities and ecosystems, and how regions are acting despite challenges and finance constrains. From St. Louis’ work on restoring mangroves to increase coastal resilience, to the European Committee of the Regions shaping an adaptation framework that can guide investments in local action, to California’s support of Mediterranean regions through the Mediterranean Climate Action Partnership (MCAP) - regional leadership is where national and global promises turn into real protection for people and places. Ahead of #COP30, regions are leading by example, showing what it takes to build a resilient future for both people and nature. #Regions4 #SubnationalLeadership #COP30 #ClimateAdaptation #Biodiversity #ResilientTerritories #Under2Coalition #LocalLeadersForum #ParisAgreement #JustTransition #RegionalGovernments
