Belgium Welcomes the F-35, SABCA Delivers Key Technology for the Future of Defense Yesterday marked a proud moment for Belgian aerospace with the arrival of the first F-35 aircraft at Florennes Air Base For SABCA, this is a milestone in our contribution to next-generation fighter technology. As part of the BeLightning industrial partnership, SABCA delivers the composite skins and substructures for the F-35A horizontal tail planes. This stealth-critical component is the result of years of expertise, innovation, and collaboration. The skins are, together with the metallic structures, provided by ASCO, assembled at Sonaca into a horizontal tail plane (HTP) and delivered to BAE Systems. With BeLightning, the three industrial partners and the Belgian federal government (SFPIM) have built a robust industrial foundation for F-35 production in Belgium, combining advanced manufacturing, engineering excellence, and Industry 4.0 infrastructure. SABCA is proud to announce the signing of a major €85 million contract with ArianeGroup for the production of Thrust Vector Actuation Systems (TVAS) for the Ariane 6 launcher. This milestone reinforces SABCA Technologies’ position as a key industrial partner in Europe’s sovereign access to space and highlights our long-standing expertise in high-precision aerospace systems. The signing ceremony was honored by the presence of Belgian Minister of Scientific Policy Vanessa Matz, who emphasized the value of Belgian industry in strategic European programs. European Space Agency - ESA and ArianeGroup also reaffirmed the importance of this collaboration for the operational success of Ariane 6 and the return on public investment in space technologies. On September 23, Florennes Air Base experienced a special moment with the official unveiling of the MQ-9B SkyGuardian, the Belgian Air Force's new remotely piloted aircraft. ✂️The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the commissioning of this modern platform, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, the Chief of Defense, and the Commander of the Air Force.   This milestone not only highlights the strategic importance for our defense but also marks a step forward towards more connected and flexible operations in Europe. In addition, it is a real boost for Belgian #industry and technological sovereignty. During his speech, the CEO of General Atomics acknowledged SABCA Limburg as the single source supplier for all SatNav Radomes on the MQ-9B sold worldwide. A major endorsement! It highlights the strategic importance and trust placed in SABCA's capabilities and quality standards. Since the start of Radomes production in january 2022, SABCA Limburg has delivered 45 up to now. The commercial success foresees a strong volume growth in the coming years. Seeing the first MQ-9B coming to Belgium is in that way a homecoming of our locally produced Radomes. Our sister company, Sabena Engineering Charleroi, as a privileged partner of the #Defense, provides technical support for the maintenance and flight operations of this new MQ-9B platform. We're happy to report the second successful flight of Ariane 6, with SABCA Technologies on board. On August 12, 2025, Ariane 6 lifted off from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, successfully placing EUMETSAT’s Metop-SGA1 satellite into orbit. SABCA teams delivered two critical components: - The Thrust Vector Actuation Systems (TVAS), which steer the rocket and ensure its precise trajectory. - Fuselage panels, which performed flawlessly throughout the mission. This launch marks a major milestone for Europe’s space ambitions and reinforces the importance of autonomous access to space. It’s also a proud moment for Belgium and for SABCA, as we continue to contribute to shaping the future of aerospace.
