Freelance IT Manager - New Data Centre - Long Term - Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced IT Manager to lead a greenfield project focused on designing, building, and commissioning a new data centre. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the IT infrastructure from the ground up — overseeing strategy, design, implementation, and operational readiness for a state-of-the-art environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and delivery of a new data centre, ensuring scalability, resilience, and security.
• Oversee infrastructure build-out, including servers, networking, storage, and virtualization platforms.
• Manage relationships with vendors, partners, and contractors to deliver the project on time and within budget.
• Develop and implement IT policies, standards, and procedures for the new environment.
• Collaborate with cloud, network, and security teams to integrate hybrid or multi-cloud capabilities.
• Ensure business continuity, disaster recovery, and compliance standards are built into the design.
• Oversee system migrations, testing, and performance validation.
• Recruit, coach, and manage technical staff during the project phase and transition to operations.
• Report project progress, risks, and milestones to senior leadership.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an IT Manager, Infrastructure Manager, or Data Centre Project Lead.
• Strong background in data centre design, build, and operations (greenfield or major migration experience).
• Deep understanding of networking, virtualization, storage, and security architectures.
• Experience managing hybrid environments (on-prem and cloud, ideally Azure or AWS).
• Strong project management and stakeholder communication skills.
• Experience managing vendors, budgets, and procurement.

• ONSITE POLICY: Brussels (flexible remote working)
• HOURS PER WEEK: 40
• LANGUAGES: English and (Dutch or French)
