🌱 "Yerevan Spring": The 12th #Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan demonstrated a revitalization of the #EasternPartnership. The session brought together a strong European Parliament delegation and partner countries, signaling renewed commitment to regional cooperation. Notably, guests from the Turkish parliament attended, highlighting the importance of engaging the wider region and carrying great symbolic significance for Armenia-Türkiye relations. 🤝 Broad participation included democratic forces from Belarus and Georgia, underscoring the Assembly's role as a platform for democratic values. The Assembly expressed strong support for the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process and welcomed the Washington August 8 peace declaration, opening opportunities for regional connectivity and economic cooperation. This development has far-reaching implications, extending beyond the region and connecting it more effectively with global markets. ⚡ The Assembly took firm stances on regional challenges, including: 🔹Condemning Georgia's systemic assault on democratic institutions and rigged parliamentary elections; 🔹Urging the EU to open accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, despite Hungary's veto; 🔹Highlighting human rights crises in Azerbaijan and Belarus, with over 400 and 1,250 political prisoners respectively; 🔹Addressing Russian disinformation campaigns and calling for enhanced EU mechanisms to counter propaganda; 🔹Calling for the release of all political prisoners, including Sakharov Prize Laureate Mzia Amaglobeli and Nobel Peace Prize winner Ales Bialiatski. 🛡️ The session welcomed concrete security partnerships, including Armenia's inclusion in the European Peace Facility and the signing of a Security and Defence Partnership with Moldova. The Assembly expressed concern about funding cuts to civil society organizations and called on the EU to step up support, recognizing the critical role of CSOs in democratic reform. 🧑🤝🧑 The session reaffirmed the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly's role as an inclusive platform for cooperation, condemning Russian aggression and demonstrating commitment to shared values of democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The "Yerevan spring" signals renewed energy, decisive action, and unwavering commitment to the Eastern Partnership vision, with a focus on building resilient democratic institutions and holding authoritarian regimes accountable. The Assembly's willingness to take strong, principled positions demonstrates that the Eastern Partnership is not merely a diplomatic framework, but an active force for democracy, peace, and regional transformation. #parliamentarydiplomacy
