  • 📢 The EU Climate Action Progress Report 2025 is out — and there’s good news!  In 2024, EU greenhouse gas emissions fell 2.5% compared to 2023.  📉  Emissions are now 37.2% lower than in 1990, while the economy grew 71%, proving that growth and emissions reduction go hand in hand.    This means the EU is on track to achieve its 2030 emission reduction target of a 55% decrease by 2030.  📒 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eCq7eNeV

  • The #InnovationFund supports a variety of projects in many sectors and around one-third of those target the decarbonisation of the European transport sector. This sector impacts the land 🏞️, air ☁️ and seas 🌊, accounting for nearly a quarter of the EU’s annual greenhouse gas emissions. To tackle the decarbonisation of this hard-to-abate sector, the Innovation Fund supports groundbreaking projects that do the following: 🔹 Produce and use sustainable fuels 🌱 ⛽  🔹 Electrify transport systems ⚡  🔹 Manufacture and recycle batteries for electric vehicles🔋🚗  🔹 Build and/or retrofit low- and zero-carbon ships 🚢, airplanes ✈️, and heavy-duty vehicles 🚚 Financed by the revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System, the Fund has so far dedicated €4.8 billion to around 90 transport projects across Europe.  Read our factsheet to find out more about what kind of technologies the Innovation Fund supports and where they’re located. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eZMUU953

  • EU climate action takes a major step forward! 🌍 EU Member States have agreed on a general approach for the EU’s 2040 climate target: a legally binding goal to cut net greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040, including an 85% domestic target and up to 5% international carbon credits. At the same time, the EU has submitted its new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement to the UNFCCC: to reduce net emissions by 66.25–72.5% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels. Together, these milestones send a strong, united message ahead of COP30 in Belém, Brazil: 🎯 Europe is staying the course on its path to climate neutrality by 2050. 📉 The EU remains firmly committed to achieving the Paris Agreement goals. • Good news for train travellers – and the planet! 🌍   The EU’s new high-speed rail plan is set to deliver a faster high-speed rail network by 2040. This means the duration of many of Europe’s most popular train journeys will drop significantly, for example: 📍 Copenhagen – Berlin: from 7h to 4h 📍 Paris – Rome: from 10h50 to 8h45 📍 Sofia – Athens: from 13h40 to 6h 📍 Vienna – Ljubljana: from 6h05 to 4h30 And that new rail connections are on the way: 🛤️ Lisbon – Madrid – Paris 🛤️ Tallinn – Riga – Vilnius - Warsaw   🚆 Faster and better rail links mean more people choosing trains, helping cut emissions and make our transport system more sustainable.   Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dJ7AnVVW #EUTransport #ConnectingEurope #TEN_T

💡Deal in the Council of Ministers on 2040 💡 Since I entered politics, the most important negotiations I’ve been part of have always come down to the wire. It’s the name of the game: long intense discussions where we end up striking last minute deals after pulling an all-nighter. This is exactly what happened on the EU’s 2040 target. After months of negotiations with all Member States, and a long intense discussion yesterday and into the night, we got there in the end. We need climate, competitiveness and independence. All three are crucial and going forward we need to ensure that one doesn’t come at the expense of the other. This morning, the Environment and Climate Ministers of all Member States reached a pragmatic, ambitious deal which ensures that. 👉 A legally binding headline 2040 target of 90% with a domestic target of 85% and up to 5% of international carbon credits. 👉 Postponement of ETS 2 by 1 year and adoption of measures on ETS 2 implementation framework to smoothen the launch of ETS 2 by the end of the year. Today’s deal gives business the predictability they desperately need here in Europe. It also gives us a strong hand in international negotiations because we’ll be going to COP30 in Belém with an ambitious EU NDC. The Paris Agreement continues to drive real progress and with the range that we have, between 66.25 and 72.5, we are showing just that. Huge thanks to everyone involved in today’s deal especially Lars Aagaard, the Danish Presidency team and all European Commission colleagues.

  • In which world do you want to live?   Across Europe, more & more bio-based products are replacing fossil-based ones, such as:   🍽 bio-based plastics  🧴 algae-based cosmetics  👓 car parts & eye glass frames from olive pruning waste 🚜 biofertilizers using organic fruit & vegetable residues 🍱 food packaging made from agricultural waste, etc.   These projects are cutting emissions, reducing waste, and creating new jobs. Because the bioeconomy is about the circular, smarter use of resources.   Learn more on what the #Bioeconomy can do for you: https://lnkd.in/evmsTPZG © Gatis Šļūka for the cartoon 💚
