  • Yesterday, Alex Petre participated in the International Energy Agency (IEA) Energy Innovation Forum 2025 in Toronto alongside energy leaders, policymakers, and innovators from around the world. The invitation-only forum was opened by the Honourable Timothy Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, and the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of Environment and Climate Change. Co-hosted by the IEA and the Government of Canada ahead of the G7 Energy and Environment Ministers' Meeting, it brought together the public sector, finance, corporate leaders, researchers, and startups to advance clean energy technology innovation. The discussions reinforced what we're seeing firsthand at Deep Sky: the urgency of deploying breakthrough climate technologies at scale. As we build Canada's carbon removal infrastructure, international cooperation and sustained innovation investment are critical. #EnergyInnovation #ClimateAction #CarbonRemoval #IEA #CleanTech #G7

    Chief Dakota Tipi First Nation

In Winnipeg yesterday we had another milestone day in advancing our overall Dakota Grand Council economic development strategy with the formal signing and planning of next steps in the Deep Sky Manitoba partnership! Our next phase will include outreach and community sessions, investment planning, and further development of the procurement strategies to maximize local Manitoba benefit of the construction and operations of the project. I want to thank CEO Alex Petre and the DEEP SKY Team for their transparent and inclusive approach to this development, clearly recognizing the importance of a “distinctions based “ approach to consultation. I also want to thank Chairman Renville, Chief Brown and my Council members Myles Miller / Karl Stone for participating in the discussion and due diligence, we need to continue to advance Dakota interests as a team! Full steam ahead! #hokahey!

📊 Canadians rally behind carbon removal: 81% say it’s important to Canada’s future New national public opinion research by Carbon Business Council and Carbon Removal Canada shows a strong majority believe carbon removal is key to Canada’s economic resilience and climate strategy: 🔹 64% support carbon removal with 29% remaining neutral on the topic 🔹 67% believe carbon removal can create jobs and grow the economy 🔹 And 86% say community consultation is essential 🤝 Not only do most Canadians support carbon removal, it also shapes their choices: 62% are more likely to vote for candidates who support it, while 56% view companies more favorably when they invest in it. And support crosses party lines: 77% of Liberals, 76% of NDP, and 51% of Conservative voters back carbon removal. The message is clear: Canadians are calling for carbon removal leadership, and they expect governments and companies to champion a sector that can create jobs, restore ecosystems, and strengthen climate resilience. ➡️ Our Canada CDR Policy Working Group of more than 20 companies is already advancing that vision – and recently published a national policy primer led by Dima Lazarova (Climeworks), Diana Philip (Planetary), Jason Vanderheyden (Deep Sky), Sean Lowrie (Arca), and Vikrum Aiyer (Heirloom).

  • As the US cancels DAC hubs, Canada pushes forward. 💪 Today, we announced the location for our newest facility: Southwestern Manitoba. At 500,000 ton carbon removal at full scale, it will be one of the world's largest and stands to bring an estimated $500 million investment to the region. "Southwestern Manitoba perfectly embodies what the carbon removal industry needs to succeed: ideal geology, clean energy, a skilled workforce, and forward thinking leadership," said Alex Petre, Deep Sky CEO. "What Deep Sky is building in Manitoba isn't just one of the world's largest carbon removal facilities, it's the foundation of an industry that will reshape our economy and our planet. Canada has the opportunity to become the carbon removal capital of the world, and capture the jobs and economic opportunity that will come with it." This announcement further strengthens Canada's leadership in carbon removal technology, an industry with the potential to grow into a multi-trillion dollar global market in the coming decades. Carbon Markets at Deep Sky

I’m honoured to have been invited to ICEF 2025 to speak at the Mission Innovation CDR Workshop about the opportunity to scale up the development, financing, and deployment of carbon removal infrastructure. It comes at a time when Japan's role in the global transition infrastructure is taking off. Corporations, financial institutions, and policymakers are advancing the country's long-term Green Transformation (GX) strategy, where Carbon Dioxide Removal, and particularly DAC, is expected to play an increasingly central role in achieving net-zero. US$1T is backing this strategy. Before 2033. 😳 My priorities for the week: • Deepening Deep Sky’s and Canada’s collaboration with Japanese corporations and investors leading Japan’s Green Transformation (GX) strategy • Sharing perspectives on how to build financeable, scalable carbon removal projects that deliver durable climate impact based on my work at Deep Sky over the last 2 years, and OMERS prior to that  If you’ll be in Tokyo, reach out! If you weren't aware of the Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission, it was launched at COP26 by the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada, with core members including Norway, Japan, Australia, China, Netherlands with a mission of advancing capital and policy for large-scale projects in tech-based carbon removal.
