October 20-24 is Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Week! This year's theme is "Bridging Gaps, Building Bridges". GEPH's dedicated team of public health inspectors and public health nurses work hard with our healthcare settings to bridge the gaps between IPAC recommendations and everyday proactive actions. A big thank you to our amazing Infectious Diseases and IPAC Hub Team!

Last week, Lina and Josh, Health Promoters from the Planning and Evaluation Team, presented for our Knowledge Exchange Session. At Grand Erie Public Health, we value the power of shared knowledge and collective learning. By taking the time to learn from one another, we strengthen our connections and grow as an organization. The Knowledge Exchange sessions offer a space for staff to explore the diverse programs and services offered both within Public Health and throughout our community. Josh and Lina shared information about the Icelandic Prevention Model (IPM) /Planet Youth - an exciting community based upstream approach to youth substance use prevention. Rather than using one-time programs or scare tactics, the IPM focuses on implementing community-wide changes by: • Promoting protective factors like strong family ties, participation in sports or clubs and school engagement • Integrating the perspectives of youth directly through surveys and community planning • Emphasizing sustained, long-term commitment using local youth data For more details on Planet Youth and information on how you can get involved, visit: https://bit.ly/4gObenc Do you work with youth in Haldimand or Norfolk? Yesterday, our staff held an early flag raising in observance of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. We were joined by guest speaker Jake Jamieson, Artistic and Programming Director of the Woodland Cultural Centre. Today, we commemorate the intergenerational impacts of Residential Schools on the lives of Indigenous families. We honour the survivors of this injustice. Every child matters.

Every September we celebrate Environmental Public Health Week. The restaurants you eat at, the clean water you drink, the pools you swim in, and the community events you attend are all safe and healthy thanks to our Environmental Health team. Our Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) enforce regulations under the Health Protection and Promotion Act of Ontario. Our team investigates public facilities in our community for unsafe food handling practices, air quality health hazards and foodborne illnesses. Thank you to our Environmental Health team for keeping our community healthy, safe and informed.
