Did you know that more than 200 registered respiratory therapists work at LHSC?
From the Emergency Departments to the Operating Rooms, from the ICU to the bedside in non-critical care areas and beyond, Respiratory Therapists (RTs) serve an important role on our care teams. At LHSC, RTs support neonatal, paediatric and adult patients with a broad range of care delivery across our hospitals, including:
- Management of advanced life-support equipment, such as mechanical ventilators in the ICU
- Assistance in emergency situations such as rapid response, trauma, and airway management
- Delivery of oxygen therapy, nebulized treatments, and airway clearance therapies
- Support for patients with chronic illnesses like COPD, asthma, and neuromuscular disease
- Performing diagnostic tests such as Pulmonary Function tests
- Providing education, compassion, and guidance to patients and families during their most vulnerable moments
- Working alongside physicians, nurses, and anesthesiologists in the operating room
Every breath matters and RTs are there to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of cardiopulmonary support, every day.
