Chamonix is the beating heart of European trail running. Every year at the tail end of August, what seems like the entire industry — brands, runners, spectators — descend on the small town nestled into the French Alps for UTMB Mont-Blanc, the Super Bowl of trail running. What’s often overshadowed by the grandeur of UTMB week, however, is the vibrant running community that calls Chamonix and its surrounding towns home for the year’s other 51 weeks. And that community that came out in force for the norda 005 World Tour stop this past weekend, an event in partnership with Ravanel & Co. , a bastion of Chamonix’s mountain sports culture. Over 70 runners joined us for a 7K run, testing out the 005 and enjoying iconic views of waterfalls, shifting foliage and the town below. What was most striking about the group was each participant’s deep knowledge of trail running and striking curiosity about the technologies behind the 005: Arnitel® TPEE foam, bio-based Dyneema® and Vibram® Megagrip Elite™ rubber. Answering detailed technical questions while racking up substantial elevation gain may not be the norm at many companies, but it felt like being right at home for us. Merci, Chamonix. The skies showed no promise, and the forecast was equally macabre. Brussels, a warm and welcoming city with a vibrant running community, was the first stop on the norda European leg of 005 World Tour — but it didn’t seem as if Mother Nature would be willing to cooperate. But, just like the Handshake Running team so aptly noted the day before the event, norda is Canadian and a little inclement weather isn’t going to stop us. Nor was it going to stop the 60+ runners from Brussels that came to Handshake Running to demo the 005, get their hands on an event-only norda x Handshake Running T-shirt and eat burgers from local favorite PitStop, cooked and served from the trunk of a vintage Defender. Antoine and Hans Tollet , co-founders of Handshake Running, have been norda family since the earliest days of the company, and stockists since they threw open the doors to their store in 2024. They’ve created a community fueled by passion, purpose and kinship, which was on full display as the demo group, headlamps lit, headed cheerfully into the rain for a winding 9K run that took us through Brussels’ parks and up the steepest hill in the city. The only thing higher than our heart rates after a full send on the hill climb were the vibes, with laughter and chatter lasting throughout the run and back at the shop afterwards. Despite the downpour, attendees, gleefully lingered, swapping stories, talking shoes and eating burgers. We ran fast at points, but nothing about the night was hurried. The Ultra Gobi 400km: Gratitude is at the root of Jovica Spajic’s running practice. It’s what helps him block out the inevitable challenges of a multi-day race — remonstrances from body and mind, challenges presented by navigation, fueling, and water — and remain focused on the task at hand, no matter how fractious the internal battle becomes. And, across 400 kilometres of the Gobi Desert (whose name means “Waterless Place” in Mongolian) at Ultra Gobi 2025, Jovica’s gratitude carried him to another podium finish. Through scree and sand, in the blazing sun and the chill of the desert night, Jovica ran onwards, staunch in his determination, grateful for both the experience and the body that enabled him to face it head-on. As is to be expected from an athlete who’s exclusively raced distances over 300k for the last five years, Jovica has extremely high personal standards. That, coupled with a burning internal desire to push himself to his limits, have made him a force to be reckoned with. What makes him truly special, however, is that he wants to compete the right way. To help and uplift his fellow racers, not crush them. As is his tradition, he crossed the finish line side-by-side with another podium finisher. The terrain, the distance, the experiences, the gear — in this case, a single pair of the norda run 001A — all change, but nothing changes who Jovica is as a person, and that’s why we’re so proud to support him. “I’m super tired, but filled with positive energy and beautiful emotions,” Jovica said in a WhatsApp message after the race. “I could literally go for a run right now if it was needed.” Congratulations, Jovicia. Since the races kicked off in 2003, the area’s sharp elevation gains and technical trails have served as a proving ground for the world’s finest ultrarunners (seven members of norda’s elite trail team partook this year). And, over time, the week has become just as important to the brands that support those runners. 11 hours. 48 minutes. 18 seconds. 101 kilometres, from Courmayeur to Champex to Chamonix. A third-place finish in what's already being hailed as "one of the greatest races in CCC history", with only three minutes separating the top three women. All in a day's work for norda run trail team athlete Anna Tarasova. We first met Anna - and felt the strength of her indomitable spirit — during the Girona stop of our 002 World Tour in 2023, when she handily won our Storm the Castle event. She's been family ever since, and officially became a member of the norda trail team in 2024. As Davide Tempesta closed the distance to the Mediterranean Sea — 1000 meters, 500 meters, 100 meters — the joy was palpable in his stride, his efficient form giving way to the all-out sprint of boyish wonderment as he threw off his gear and flung himself headfirst into the welcoming waters. Davide had just finished TSP Europe solo, and set a FKT in the process, running the more than 450KM between the grand peaks of Chamonix and the sublime beaches of Marseille in 86 hours, 14 minutes and 20 seconds. The journey was one of extremes, with both immense beauty and intense suffering meeting Davide head-on. But those peaks and valleys, both literal and figurative, gave him a chance to “reconnect with his true self,” as he told us. Davide has been running in norda run since 2022, and felt compelled to reach out to us this past April, after he saw parallels between his own story and ours. He’s been norda fam ever since. “My love for shoes goes way back,” he told us. “My grandfather was a shoemaker in Italy, so I’ve always been drawn to products that are crafted with intention and care. That’s why norda resonates with me so deeply: it’s not just the performance of the shoes, but the vision, community and spirit of the brand.” Congratulations, Davide.
