Giving surgeons clarity on margins to act in the moment and close with confidence.
About us
Perimeter Medical Imaging AI is a pioneering medical technology company driven to transform cancer surgery with advanced imaging tools. We can’t imagine how frustrating it is for surgeons to do everything they can and still have to make the “dreaded call” to the patient. That’s why we developed our OCT technology that provides 10x the resolution of X-ray and ultrasound at 2mm imaging depth for real-time insight, so surgeons can act in the moment with greater certainty. A Toronto-based company established in 2013, with U.S. headquarters in Dallas, Texas, Perimeter seeks to harness the power of big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning technology to further our mission of improving the standard of care, providing better long-term outcomes for patients, and reducing healthcare costs.

Today is National Mammography Day. It is an important reminder and encouragement to women to get screened for breast cancer. Since 1990, breast cancer mortality has decreased by 40% in the U.S., thanks in large part, to the rising use of #mammography. When breast cancer is found early, in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%.* We believe all women should have access to regular screening mammograms, based on their individual risk, and in consultation with their health care providers. According to American College of Radiology, women are encouraged to talk with their doctors about breast cancer risk by the age of 25 to determine the best screening plan. 🔗Helpful Resources: Patient Decision Aid- https://lnkd.in/gCbzpPAH Risk Assessment- https://lnkd.in/gNhW-fXT At Perimeter Medical Imaging AI, we are driven to transform cancer care and help improve patient outcomes. #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #BreastCancerAwareness * References- 1. DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ) is often referred to as Stage Zero breast cancer. While it’s considered non-invasive, identifying and removing DCIS precisely is critical to help reduce the need for additional surgeries. We appreciate advocates like Jennifer Douglas for sharing clear, accessible information to help patients better understand their diagnosis and treatment options. At Perimeter Medical Imaging AI, we are driven to transform cancer care and help improve patient outcomes, working toward a future where no patient has to experience the trauma of being called back for a second surgery. #DCIS #CancerCare #StrongerTogether #PerimeterAI
DCIS, also known as Ductal Carcinoma In Situ, is considered Stage Zero breast cancer. It is often detected on a mammogram. In fact, before the widespread use of mammography, DCIS wasn’t as common. (https://lnkd.in/dm_NBnfT) This early stage of breast cancer often appears as calcifications on a mammogram. These white specks, which are calcium deposits in the breast tissue, can be benign but may also indicate DCIS. (https://lnkd.in/dv6s228b) If your screening mammogram shows calcifications, additional imaging, or a biopsy may be ordered. If the calcifications are benign, then they will be noted in your record for future imaging. To understand more about DCIS, it is helpful to dig into each of the letters of the acronym. D: Ductal. This indicates where the abnormal cells are located. In DCIS, the abnormal cells are found in the milk ducts of the breast. C: Carcinoma. A carcinoma is a type of cancer that begins in the skin or the tissue linings of our organs. IS: in situ. This is a Latin term that means “in place.” In the case of DCIS, the abnormal (cancerous) cells have not spread or invaded the surrounding tissue. DCIS is non-invasive breast cancer. Some cases of DCIS will never spread or invade the surrounding tissues, but others will. If it does, then it becomes invasive breast cancer—which requires more aggressive treatment. Researchers are studying DCIS in more detail to determine whether certain types can be observed through a treatment called active surveillance. However, until this research is finalized and more is known about the different types of DCIS, the standard of care remains to remove the DCIS surgically. Surgical options for DCIS include a lumpectomy (with or without radiation) or a mastectomy. DCIS is often found on the margins in a lumpectomy and can be the cause of re-excisions, especially in younger women who have dense breasts. To learn more about DCIS treatment options, you can read my post here: https://lnkd.in/dA9Q3mXG #sponsored #StrongerTogether #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #dcis

Someone in your life has cancer— now what? How can you support them during (or after) their treatment? We sat down and asked one of our advisors, Jennifer Douglas, breast cancer patient advocate and author, for some ideas. She was diagnosed with DCIS and works in the breast cancer community. She shared this with us: “I was always touched by the unique ways that the people in my life surrounded us with support. And, it didn’t matter what they did; what mattered was that they were showering me and my family with care during a really difficult time in our lives. Often, what was most difficult for me, as the cancer patient, was saying yes to the support. Here are a few of the things that made a difference for us during my cancer treatment: 🔹Meals. We all needed to eat, and often, after a long day, the last thing I wanted to do was prepare dinner for my family. We loved getting gift cards to order dinner for delivery, having meals delivered through a meal train, and also enjoying a few deliveries from Spoonful of Comfort. (https://lnkd.in/g9PrZk6y) 🔹 Flowers: These always brightened my day! 🔹 Errand help: We were a busy family with teenage boys, so it really helped when my neighbors and friends could help with grocery runs or give our kids rides to and from their activities. 🔹Rides to and from appointments: I appreciated the friends and neighbors who were able to help out with rides. While I “technically” could have driven to my appointments, it made it less stressful for me when someone drove me there. 🔹 Spontaneous gifts: blankets, cozy socks, puzzles, fun activities, or gift cards for my favorite coffee places. 🔹 Visits: I loved having people stop by for a little while just to say hi. I was tired, but it always made me smile when someone came by. 🔹 Phone calls: It was so nice to know people were thinking of me, and even when I wasn’t up to talking, even a short call brought a smile to my face. 🔹 Practical help: Housecleaning, babysitting, pet sitting, dog walking, laundry, or yard work. These are all things that need to continue, even during treatment. These are often the things that drain our well-being as we try to recover and feel behind. 🔹 Cards: In a world where everything is digital, there is something wonderful about a handwritten note I could put on my bedside and look at. I still have a folder of all the cards I received during treatment. I was always touched when someone in my life reached out and let me know they were thinking of me." We hope these ideas inspire you to offer support and encouragement the next time you hear that someone in your life has cancer. #StrongerTogether #PerimeterAI #Pinktober
