Google now 13,000 times faster... IonQ hits 99.99. And the U.S. government reportedly mulls equity investments in quantum companies. (Now they just need a clever finfluencer handle to post their positions and predictions on X -- something like @UnitedStonks) And more news in quantum! 💫 What’s the real job of a leader? In the latest episode of The Quantum Economy Podcast, Anders Indset sits down with Chris Ballance, co-founder & CEO of Oxford Ionics (now part of IonQ), physicist, and one of the leading minds in trapped-ion quantum computing. At the heart of their conversation is Chris’s conviction: the future of quantum and of humanity, depends not on algorithms alone, but on our ability to engineer, adapt, and create meaning through technology. 🎧 Listen now via the links in the comments. #QuantumComputing #Podcast #Quantum #TechPodcast

🇬🇧 Universal Quantum CEO Warns UK Risks Losing Global Lead Without Faster Action on Quantum Investment Dr. Sebastian Weidt, CEO and co-founder of Universal Quantum, has urged Parliament to move faster to secure the UK’s position as a global quantum leader, warning that “the UK risks losing its unfair advantage” if government investment, procurement, and manufacturing support don’t accelerate. Speaking before Parliament’s Science, Innovation and Technology Committee, Weidt outlined a five-step plan to protect the nation’s quantum leadership: 🔹 Faster Investment — Speed up funding decisions and reduce risk aversion. 🔹 Domestic Manufacturing — Build facilities to produce full-scale quantum computers in the UK. 🔹 Anchor Procurement — Use government contracts to validate and scale British tech. 🔹 Defense Integration — Coordinate quantum adoption across defense and security programs. Weidt emphasized that the UK’s science and talent base is world-class, but pointed to Germany’s €70M contracts with Universal Quantum as evidence that faster, decisive government support is needed to anchor quantum capability at home. U.S. Government Reportedly Exploring Equity Stakes in Quantum Computing Firms 🇺🇸 According to reports from Reuters and The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government is in discussions with several quantum-computing companies — including IonQ, Rigetti Computing and D-Wave, to take equity stakes in exchange for at least $10 million in federal funding per firm. If confirmed, this would mark a rare shift toward direct government ownership in private tech companies, signaling a bold approach to strengthening national leadership in quantum technologies. 🔹 Talks reportedly led by the Department of Commerce’s CHIPS R&D Office 🔹 At least $10M per company proposed in exchange for equity 🔹 Other firms, including QCi and Atom Computing, may also be involved 🔹 Stocks of quantum companies surged following the reports While the Commerce Department says no deals are finalized, the move could represent a new model of public–private partnership — blending innovation support with strategic oversight as the U.S. accelerates its race for quantum advantage. 👉 Full story via link in our comments.

Google Quantum AI pushes toward practical quantum advantage ⚛️ Using its 65-qubit superconducting processor, Google Quantum AI ran a complex physics simulation 13,000x faster than the world’s most powerful supercomputer — marking a major leap into the beyond-classical regime. 🔹 New Quantum Echoes algorithm measured second-order out-of-time-order correlators (OTOC₂), revealing quantum interference phenomena that classical machines can’t efficiently replicate. 🔹 What would take 3.2 years on the Frontier supercomputer ran in just 2.1 hours on Google’s quantum processor. 🔹 First practical quantum advantage tied to real-world physics — extending applications like NMR spectroscopy and quantum chaos modeling. 🔹 Validates both hardware and algorithmic progress on Google’s dual-track quantum roadmap. “This makes good on Feynman’s dream,” said Hartmut Neven, VP of Engineering at Google. “Verifiable quantum predictions, generated and checked against nature itself.” 👉 Read the full article via the link in our comments.
