About us

The Toronto Transit Commission has a rich history dating back to 1921. Since that time, the TTC has grown to become North America’s third largest transit system, providing 1.7 million customer journeys every workday, or around 540 million rides per year. The TTC has a proud record for providing safe, reliable transit. Operating across five distinct modes of transportation, the TTC has developed a reputation for excellence in the integration of those modes through well-proven design. A full-service operator, the TTC is capable of undertaking virtually every activity in-house via our 17,000 dedicated and professional employees. Toronto’s transit system should match the experience of living in such a city: a high quality, accessible network that understands what our customers need and delivers what matters most to them. The TTC is committed to delivering a world-class transit system.

  • Commissioners approved the TTC Wayfinding Strategy, which redefines how customers navigate Toronto’s transit system by transforming wayfinding from a static signage approach into a dynamic, multi-sensory, and integrated experience. Delivering the Strategy is subject to funding of between $173 million and $210 million. Commissioners received a status update on the TTC-Metrolinx Master E-Fare Collection Outsourcing Agreement. Commissioners authorized the release of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) Peer Review of the TTC’s subway and streetcar assets and maintenance programs after consideration of the management response on November 3. Commissioners approved a report with recommendations for publicly honouring the service and contributions of war and peacekeeping veterans. Commissioners passed a motion requesting that the Leslie Barns streetcar carhouse be named after former Toronto Mayor David Miller to commemorate his contributions to delivering better transit for all Torontonians. The next scheduled TTC Board meeting will be on Monday, November 3, 2025.

  • Today marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day – a time to honour residential school survivors and reflect on our collective responsibility towards reconciliation. Throughout the year, we’ve collaborated with the ATU113 United Indigenous Council and several Indigenous community agencies to raise awareness and drive meaningful change across our organization. You may see some of our Transit Operators wearing an orange shirt over their uniforms to show their support. Every shirt worn is a symbol of hope, reconciliation and a commitment to building a better future.
