About

I studied computer hardware and thought it was my passion. When, instead, I started writing software for a living, I realized that I wanted to master that.

I've touched everything on the software development spectrum: databases, system administration, infrastructure, backend, frontend, compilers, code generation. I like to work with new technologies but I like it better when things work.

I feel that engineering is the combination of people, economics and technology. I want to get better and work with people who want the same.

We took the Xobni stack and integrated it inside Yahoo!

I own multiple node.js components critical to our group. I also provide statistical reports (R, ggplot2, rmarkdown) for a number of components.

I came to Xobni because of the people.

My job is to improve things. The infrastructure can always be simpler, faster and more reliable.

In practice, it means I write a lot of Node.js code. I believe that a lot of small and loosely connected network components do a better job than monolithic software.

I had been programming in Ruby without Rails for many years, but it was time to join my friends and immerse myself in Ruby on Rails.

Some of it was consulting, most of it was full-time work. I worked with talented people and it was always challenging and fun.

Although I did many things, most of my time was spent on a project I started called VoiceRuby.

While most VoiceXML applications were written to run server-side, I realized that it would be possible to compile a static VoiceXML and use AJAX-like techniques to bring the necessary customizations to call flows.

VoiceRuby was a Ruby DSL to describe VoiceXML applications and generate the tons of boilerplate code to make it all work. It was believed that static VoiceXML was impractical…

Projects

  • vim-slime

I spend a lot of time in Vim.

Emacs has SLIME and I thought I could bring its main feature to Vim. This was meant as a proof-of-concept, but a LOT of people love it.

  • dotfiles

I love UNIX and being on the command-line.

I have kept my dotfiles in some source control for the longest time. It is my collection of the best tricks I have accumulated over time. It is also a way to share my knowledge with others.
