📉 Layoffs and Restructuring in eCommerce | Q2 2025 Update The e-commerce sector has seen substantial job reductions this year (28,000 in 2025), reflecting broader economic shifts and realignments in strategy: 𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐨𝐧 has initiated ~15,000 job cuts, closing 7 fulfillment centers in Quebec, affecting ~2,000 employees. Part of a broader push toward automation. 𝐓𝐢𝐤𝐓𝐨𝐤 has restructured its eCommerce division, laying off U.S. governance teams and centralizing leadership in China and Singapore as it expands into Latin America. 𝐖𝐚𝐲𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫 exited Germany and Austria, cutting ~730 roles (3% of its global workforce). 📈 Hiring and Expansion Despite the layoffs, certain areas within e-commerce are experiencing growth and increased hiring: 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐞: Plans to invest $3.4 billion in Mexico in 2025, a 38% increase from the previous year. This investment aims to bolster technology products and financial services, with the company intending to hire 10,000 additional employees, expanding its workforce in Mexico to 35,000. 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐮: The Chinese eCommerce platform is aggressively recruiting talent from competitors like Amazon and Walmart to expand its U.S. seller base. Temu is focusing on hiring business development managers to onboard and assist new brands and manufacturers in selling their products on its marketplace. 🔍 What does this mean for hiring?
 Hiring hasn’t stopped. But the game has changed. This isn’t a collapse. This is a recalibration. Brands are tightening ops, leaning into automation, and prioritizing profitability over aggressive headcount growth. While some companies are scaling back, others are quietly leveling up. And the best candidates? They’re staying put.. unless the right opportunity finds them. #recruiting #ecommerce
