Today in Brazzaville, Congo, WHO/AFRO handed over essential medical equipment to the government of #Congo. Originally procured during the #COVID19 response, the equipment, including ventilators, oxygen concentrators and other vital tools, will help health personnel respond effectively to life-threatening conditions and strengthen critical care.

Today is #WorldPolioDay. From the Horn of Africa to the Lake Chad Basin and Sahel subregion, WHO is working with countries to reach every child with polio vaccines. Stronger cross-border coordination, expanded surveillance, improved laboratory capacity, and digital tools are driving progress. Reaching zero-dose and under-immunized children is essential to finish the job. #EndPolio

Risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) is crucial for effective outbreak response. Since the #Ebola outbreak was declared in Bulape, DRC, Jean de Dieu, a community mobilizer, has been going door-to-door raising awareness and educating families on how to protect themselves. With support from WHO and partners, more than 870 community mobilizers have been trained to do the same. 👥

Over the past year, WHO and Africa CDC have worked together to strengthen outbreak response coordination and are now supporting countries to move towards integrating #mpox response into routine health systems.
