We're excited to share insights from our recent collaboration with sproot, focused on enhancing agricultural productivity for smallholder farmers in Africa. 💡 🌱 Together with Nicolas Beutler, Raphael Jung, Michael Brüderli and Martin Dommer, our multidisciplinary team conducted a comprehensive technology analysis to identify the most effective crop modelling solutions for accurate yield forecasting. Through extensive literature reviews, expert interviews, and rigorous evaluations, we identified state-of-the-art modeling methods, tailored for resource optimization and scalability in diverse agricultural environments. Key Results include: ✅ Identified DSSAT and AquaCrop as optimal models for yield prediction and resource efficiency. ✅ Developed a strategic roadmap guiding sproot toward implementing these solutions effectively. ✅ Provided a robust foundation for data-driven investment decisions, significantly benefiting small and large-scale farmers. We are proud to support sproot's mission to empower farmers with innovative, accessible technologies, driving sustainable agricultural development. ✨ Momentum 2025: Scaling Innovation ✨ Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming over 80 guests to the Dozentenfoyer at ETH Zurich for this year’s edition of Momentum. Together, we explored one of the most pressing questions for today’s companies: How can innovation be scaled effectively and sustainably?   A huge thank you to our incredible speakers: ·      Alexandre Bastos (Givaudan) - Scaling Startup Innovation in BigFood ·      Christian Müller (NGFT) - Breaking up Processes: AI and Aviation ·      Ian Roberts (Bühler & MassChallenge) - Building Innovation Ecosystems: MassChallenge Switzerland Each of them brought unique perspectives on how innovation can be translated into real impact, from corporate-startup collaboration and agile transformation to the power of ecosystems. And of course, thank you to all our guests for your engaged participation, thoughtful questions, and inspiring conversations during the networking apéro. At ETH juniors, we believe that innovation thrives where knowledge meets action and Momentum is our platform to connect ambitious companies with bright minds and fresh perspectives. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲? 💡 In our AI workshops, organized by ETH juniors, interdisciplinary teams of students and professionals work together to explore this question. The goal is to deepen the understanding of AI technologies and identify real-world use cases in a business context. Workshop content includes: ·      Introduction to modern AI concepts such as LLMs, embeddings & RAG ·      Assessing the technological feasibility of ideas ·      Developing concrete use cases based on real-world challenges ·      Discussing data availability, risks, and practical implementation ·      Prototypical implementation approaches The workshop is led by young experts who bring the knowledge of ETH Zurich into practice at the intersection of research and application.
