🤩 Meet the participants of the Academia-Industry Training 2025/2026 🤩 💡Behind each of the startups selected for the AIT 2025/26, stands a researcher with a #story, a very personal #motivation, a #question, or a problem too important to ignore. This is why, instead of introducing the startups the usual way, we asked them a few questions to get to know the people behind the projects. 💫Their answers reveal a group of very curious, bold, and #reflective thinkers and #researchers who take #risks, #learn fast, and pursue their #ideas with deep personal #commitment. #Together, they embody #Switzerland’s #pioneering and creative approach to #innovation💫 🔎 Curious? 🚀 New and innovative research funding opportunity! 📢 The Swiss Leading House MENA is launching a new thematic call for projects “Research in Crisis-Affected Contexts: Continuity, Participation and Reconstruction”. 💥Across the MENA region, many universities and researchers continue their work despite disruptions caused by conflict, displacement, and instability. While research alone cannot resolve such complex crises, it plays a vital role: generating knowledge, informing action, guiding policy, fostering dialogue, and supporting community participation. 🤝This call supports Swiss and MENA researchers in co-developing impactful, context-aware projects that build equitable partnerships, embrace a transdisciplinary approach, and deliver lasting, practical impact by engaging key stakeholders. 🎯 Grants of up to CHF 20’000 will support initiatives that address relevant challenges including (but not limited to): 🔹 Sustaining health, education, and social systems during crises 🔹Addressing the multifaceted impacts of conflict and displacement on communities 🔹Rebuilding infrastructure and managing natural and community resources 🔹Supporting social and economic recovery through research-informed action 🔹Promoting reconciliation, justice, memory, and cultural renewal Submission deadline: 23rd January 2026 Project duration : up to 12 months Latest project start date: August 2026 💻 Join our upcoming webinar in December to learn how to conduct research in fragile contexts and get answers to your questions about the call. More information and registration will be available soon. 🔗 For more information visit the Swiss Leading House MENA website hosted by HES-SO Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale: https://lnkd.in/eZ9NaWAb #InternationalCollaboration #SwissResearch #MENAResearch #ResearchFunding #CrisisResearch

Introducing Lowlands: A Blog on Eco-Social Literacies The convergence of ecological and social crises places urgent demands on design education. While eco-social design is gaining traction, the literacies needed to practice it remain underexplored. Lowlands, our new blog at ecosocialdesign.ch, hosts conversations, explorations, and reflections from a collaboration between researchers and students of Eco-Social Design at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and National Institute of Design. We approach literacies not as a checklist, but as a plural, evolving framework. Together we ask: What should design graduates be able to do in the coming decade? And how might such literacies be taught, practiced, and embedded across diverse educational settings? One of the first conversations is with Jesko Fezer – who will also be a keynote speaker at the Social Design Network Conference 2025 in Lucerne. We talk about partisanship, local engagement, and the limits of design’s transformative promise. More conversations will follow soon. We hope to spark dialogue across the community about the futures we are preparing for — and how. This work is supported by the Swiss Leading House South Asia. ✨ It’s always inspiring to see the projects supported by the Swiss Leading House South Asia come to life! 🚀Don’t miss the 5th EthnoKino Film Festival in #Bern and #Meiringen next week by Dr.Eda Elif Tibet and her team!
COME AND JOIN US at the 5th EthnoKino Film Festival 💫 Magic 💫 Bern & Meiringen Edition (9-14 September 2025) 💥 A Cinematic Pluriverse into the Extraordinary This year, the 5th edition of the EthnoKino Film Festival embarks on a cinematic journey into the theme of “Magic”, opening its portals in Bern and Meiringen, two Swiss locales steeped in myth, memory, and alpine mystique. Nestled between the heart of the capital and the dramatic landscapes of the Hasli Valley; home to legends of dragons, wild women, and elemental spirit, the festival invites audiences to explore the invisible threads that connect worlds seen and unseen. With films arriving from across the globe from the Tundras, the Amazon, and the Australian deserts to the cosmic realms and the Ladakhi Himalayas to India, this year also features a special focus: “An Inquiry into the Pluriverse.” Supported by the Swiss Leading House South Asia this curatorial thread highlights indigenous filmmakers and visionary works from India, inviting audiences to engage with diverse cosmologies and ways of knowing. Previously, from May to August, EthnoKino spread its wings to the caves of Cappadocia, where filmmakers from around the world gathered to rediscover the meaning of heritage, magic and mythology. It busked through the bohemian streets of Cluj-Napoca, Romania’s cultural capital, and offered a unique opportunity to a select group of filmmakers during an inspiring retreat held in Ascona alongside the Locarno Film Festival. Their works were celebrated during a red-carpet award ceremony in partnership with the 2291 Foundation. Through the lens of ethnographic cinema, the festival explores how the magical manifests across cultures in ancestral rituals, sacred landscapes, ecological imaginations, and acts of spiritual resistance. From remote shamanic ceremonies to everyday enchantments hidden in urban life, EthnoKino curates a powerful lineup of films and discussions that reveal the symbolic, the surreal, and the sacred woven into the human experience. EthnoKino’s Bern and Meiringen edition carries us to become more than a film festival it is a portal for storytelling that bridges mythmaking, magic and meaning, offering a space for wonder, dialogue, and deep reflection in times of transformation.
