The 2025 Intelligence Report on Quantum Diplomacy in Action is now available!💫 This year’s edition explores multilateral perspectives on quantum security, the future of labour and the quantum divide – highlighting the collective endeavour of international organisations to address equitable access, capacity building and workforce adaptation through anticipatory science diplomacy and inclusive government frameworks. Building on the momentum of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ), the report reflects on the innovative partnerships created during the IYQ and our call to action at the start of the year, urging all actors to champion quantum innovation centered on ethics, inclusion and the wellbeing of humanity and the planet beyond 2025. We are grateful to our partners at UNESCO, United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), ITCILO and all co-authors for their contributions to the report! 💡Have you ever wondered what it takes to organise a quantum computing hackathon? Last month, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina - مكتبة الإسكندرية organised and hosted Egypt’s first-ever national quantum computing hackathon. And what better way to learn how to organise your own than by hearing about their experience firsthand? Check out our latest video to discover more about the hackathon in Egypt and what goes into organising one yourself!👉 ✍OQI’s Hackathon in a Box is a resource toolkit developed by OQI to empower the global organisation of quantum computing hackathons with an SDG focus, especially in regions with limited access to the technology. Discover the latest SDG-focused quantum computing applications that OQI has explored this year in our 2025 Use Case White Paper!💡 Presenting OQI’s full portfolio of quantum use cases relevant to the SDGs that have been supported by OQI over the past three years, the 2025 Use Case White Paper takes a deep dive into 7 use cases developed by experts from across 10 countries. These 7 use cases have started or refined their proposals with the support of OQI since the 2024 publication, and are working together to explore quantum computing solutions that address a range of SDGs – including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).🌍 Curious to find out more about some of the use cases currently in our pipeline? The GESDA - Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator Summit is in full swing! Day 1 brought the OQI community together in a series of dynamic workshops and sessions: 🌍 Our A1 community, working to develop quantum computing use cases relevant to the SDGs, came together to exchange knowledge, with the opportunity for some use case teams to present their work. 🔬 OQI has developed a framework to develop use cases from ideas to proof of concepts. During a second workshop, representatives from national and regional quantum hubs gathered to share their insights and experiences from developing their own methodologies. ✍ The OQI Educational Consortium took part in a collaborative workshop focusing on reviewing OQI's methodology for organising hackathons – where two members of the winning team from the AIMS Quantathon shared their first-hand experience of taking part in an OQI-supported hackathon. 🤝 Enrica Porcari, Head of CERN IT and Strategic Advisor to OQI, participated in a lightning talk session on Science Diplomacy in Action – presenting OQI as an example of how science diplomacy is actively shaping international cooperation, governance and innovation of quantum computing. We’re looking forward to continuing building momentum across the next few days of the Summit!💫 #OpenQuantumInstitute #GESDASummit #IYQ2025 #QuantumComputing #ScienceDiplomacy

It was great to see Francesca Schiavello, Applications Advisor at OQI, recently leading a panel discussion exploring quantum computing use cases for sustainability at the recent Q2B Paris! Francesca was joined by two active members of our community, Stefan Knecht from Algorithmiq and Samuel Horsch from Quandela, who are collaborating with OQI to develop quantum computing use cases that address real-world challenges and advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs)! 🔬 Their work highlights how quantum computing can contribute to tackling areas such as drug discovery and water pollutant removal. A big thanks to Q2B for the opportunity to contribute to the conversation around quantum for sustainability!🌍 #OpenQuantumInstitute #QuantumComputing #IYQ2025 #Q2BParis

🌍 At the end of September I had the pleasure of leading a panel at the Q2B event in Paris, joined by two panelists and colleagues, Stefan Knecht from Algorithmiq and Samuel Horsch from Quandela, that are currently working with OQI – Open Quantum Institute on bringing forward targeted quantum use case applications tackling the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 🔹 The panel set the scene by talking about initiatives led by the likes of OQI, XPRIZE, and Q4Bio, which are working to accelerate quantum computing solutions to solve global challenges. 🔹 Stefan and Samuel shared how their collaborations with OQI are targeting specific societal impacts, from drug metabolism to removing pollutants from water, showcasing the potential of quantum computing beyond traditional research areas. 🔹 We closed with a conversation on broader sustainability-focused use cases outside the OQI framework, and explored which domains might benefit the most from quantum in the future. A big thank you to the panelists for their insights and expertise, and to everyone working to ensure quantum technologies evolve not just for progress, but for purpose. The panel, "Quantum Computing Use Cases for Sustainability", will be available shortly on Q2B's Youtube channel. #QuantumComputing #Sustainability #OpenQuantumInstitute #UNSDGs #InternationalYearofQuantum #QuantumForGood #TechForImpact
