During September, Città di Lugano hosted the Special Olympics Regional Games, with over 120 athletes competing across four disciplines.
As a proud committee member of the 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗹𝗶 𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗶 𝗱𝗶 𝗦𝗢𝗦𝗪𝗜 𝗧𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗼, established in May 2024 to support Special Olympics Switzerland (SOSWI), I was honored to help organize a stakeholder event to present our association and mark the official launch of the Games.
Our mission is clear: to promote inclusion, equality, and respect through sport. We are committed to ensuring that athletes in Ticino with intellectual disabilities have the same opportunities, resources, and recognition as any other athlete. The Special Olympics athletes’ oath “𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗻, 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁” reminds us that true victory is not simply about being the best, but about giving our all, even when challenges appear difficult or impossible.
This event was the perfect opportunity to share these values with a broad and diverse audience, strengthen our network, and deepen our commitment to the Special Olympics movement.
If you are interested in learning more or exploring ways to support our mission, please feel free to reach out.
