Our new report is out and serves as a warning to global leaders that unless The Global Fund meets its 8th Replenishment target, the world risks the biggest malaria resurgence on record - costing lives, holding back African economies, and disrupting global trade. If underfunding is severe, this could result in 990,000 more lives lost and $83 billion in lost GDP for Africa by 2030. But if we stay on track to meet 2030 targets, we save 1.86 million lives and boost GDP by $231 billion. The findings are clear: funding malaria is not just a health investment, it fuels growth, protects trade, and secures a stronger, safer and more prosperous world for all. “Our Global Fund is fighting for a future without tuberculosis.” “It’s the world’s biggest [infectious disease] killer. And yet, it’s a disease that can be treated.” “Beyond the numbers are human lives. Behind every number there is human.” Communities and civil society advocates are powerful partners in the fight to #DefeatTB – driving accountability, breaking down stigma and discrimination, and saving lives. Working together, with communities at the center, is how we #StopAtNothing to build a future free of TB. CEO of the Gates Foundation. Working to ensure everyone can live a healthy life & reach their full potential. Father, husband, optimist.
At #UNGA80, I joined Rosemary Mburu, Executive Director of WACI Health, for the inaugural episode of The Threshold — a new Foreign Policy podcast on how we can end infectious diseases in today’s world, hosted by Henry Bonsu of Times Radio. In our discussion, I shared why the Gates Foundation recently committed $912 million to The Global Fund. With more than 20 years of saving lives, strengthening health systems, and working alongside countries toward long-term self-reliance, the Global Fund is one of the most successful lifesaving initiatives of the 21st century. With millions of lives on the line, we can’t stop at almost. We must double down on supporting proven partnerships like this. Few investments have such a profound human impact. I’m grateful to Rosemary and Henry for such a thoughtful and inspiring conversation. “My journey is woven into the pattern on this fabric. Every shape, every pill blooming into flowers symbolizing loss growing into purpose, perseverance and promise.” As a child, Sibulele Sibaca laid out her father’s pills every day. She didn’t know that he was dying of AIDS – only that his medicine mattered. A ritual of love, responsibility and resilience. Today, HIV can be prevented, treated – and with sustained commitment – defeated. Together, we must #StopAtNothing to finish this fight.

“This pattern holds my fear, my fight and my voice. The aguayo – the fabric of my culture – weaves it all together. From silence to strength, we cannot stop now.” Ivan Molina Aranibar’s pattern reflects his journey. The flowers honor his community and the fabric ties together his culture, his fight and his Bolivia. Through The Global Fund partnership, millions like Ivan have access to lifesaving treatment and are thriving. We must #StopAtNothing to defeat AIDS. https://lnkd.in/ehMp6Gbk
