🌍More than half the global population are at high risk of experiencing an extreme weather event, such as a flood, drought, cyclone, or heatwave. About 2.3 billion of them are poor (living on less than $6.85 per day), and almost 400 million are extremely poor (living on less than $2.15 per day), according to this World Bank report. To achieve #ZeroClimateDisasters we need to address inequality and invest in resilience. 👉https://ow.ly/sy5050Xh3a4

UNDRR has a big ambition: to help decision makers across the globe better understand and act on disaster risk.
Info
At the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), we're dedicated to helping countries and communities lower risk and raise resilience in the face of natural and human-induced hazards. Our work is guided by the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, a 15-year agreement adopted by the international community in 2015, which was the first building block of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Can't scientists predict #earthquakes? 💡They can make forecasts, but not accurate predictions. But what's the difference between a forecast and a prediction? Find out more👇

📊 To build resilience, we need to measure what matters. Losses and damages to people, economies, and ecosystems reveal where progress is happening – and where risk is rising. But this data is often fragmented, inconsistent, or missing altogether. That’s where DELTA Resilience comes in. Developed by UNDRR and partners, it helps countries generate trusted, comparable, and actionable data on disaster impacts — year after year. DELTA Resilience is a comprehensive open-source software system that combines: 💡 Methodological frameworks 📘 Data standards and governance 🤝 Capacity development and technical assistance 💻 Software tools supporting national loss databases By tracking losses and damages, countries can: ✅ Monitor Sendai Framework progress ✅ Inform the SDGs and Paris Agreement ✅ Protect hard-won development gains Discover DELTA Resilience ➡️ https://ow.ly/tgMB50Xhmt5 #ResiliencePays

🌳 Can trees really cool our cities? A new global study led by the University of Cambridge has analysed 182 scientific papers since 2010 to assess how effectively trees lower urban temperatures. Key findings: 🌡️ Trees can reduce pedestrian-level air temperatures by up to 12°C. 🏙️ In 83% of 110 cities, tree planting brought the hottest month’s average temperature below 26°C. ☀️ Cooling is strongest in hot, dry climates (≈9°C reduction), moderate in temperate zones (≈6°C), and more limited in humid regions. 🌙 However, trees can slightly raise night-time temperatures — from +0.4°C in dry to +1.5°C in temperate cities — posing trade-offs for heat recovery. 💡 Urban greening isn’t one-size-fits-all — it’s about matching tree traits and city design to local climate realities. ➡️ https://ow.ly/JLlw50XhnfH #NatureBasedSolutions #BeatTheHeat

🇺🇳 Nothing erodes sustainable development like disasters, which can often destroy decades of progress in minutes. 🤝To protect SDG progress against disaster risk, ALL of society must be engaged in DRR, and a culture of risk reduction and resilience must be developed. DRR financing strategies should be set up across sectors for sustainable development, investment in prevention encouraged, and an evidence base for investment in DRR should be established. There must be stronger oversight of an overhauled regulatory environment, and new and innovative financing models need to be created. ➡️ https://ow.ly/RGVz50XhAsa #UNday #UN80
