Analyzing over 1.1 million inventions contained in published patents, the WIPO Technology Trends Report identifies the latest patenting trends, as well as the most inventive countries, companies and institutions in the transportation sector. WIPO Director General Daren Tang visited Japan as the country marks 50 years as a WIPO member. During his visit, he met with top government officials, industry leaders, representatives from academia and the creative industry.   During his visit, Mr. Tang met with Takeshi Iwaya, Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, and expressed deep appreciation for Japan’s continued support in strengthening the global innovation ecosystem. He also met with Yoji Muto, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, focusing on the importance of green technologies and how WIPO GREEN supports global efforts to address climate challenges.   Additionally, he held bilateral meetings with Japan’s Minister of State for Intellectual Property Strategy, and the country’s Commissioner for Cultural Affairs, to discuss Japan’s intellectual property strategy, its role in fostering innovation, and the importance of international cooperation to empower creators worldwide.   As part of his visit, Mr. Tang delivered a keynote speech at the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) IP Symposium and met industry leaders, innovators, and the President of Tohoku University.   More: https://lnkd.in/eNGQr7DB   #WIPO #Japan #IPrights #IntellectualProperty

Why is WIPO’s new Treaty on genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge a significant milestone for Indigenous Peoples? What’s next for this landmark agreement? Contained in medicinal plants, agricultural crops and animal breeds, genetic resources have been building blocks for many inventions in life sciences. Requiring that patent applicants disclose the origin or source of any genetic resources or associated traditional knowledge their inventions are based on, the Treaty is a step towards curbing “biopiracy”, the misappropriation of these resources.
