"To the extent that energy history has an arc, it bends towards solutions that are leaner, cheaper and more secure," say Sam Butler-Sloss, Daan Walter and Kingsmill Bond of #energy think tank Ember. The "electrotech" revolution continues that arc with solutions driven by forces beyond climate action: physics, economics and #geopolitics. These solutions – including #renewables, EVs, heat pumps and batteries – are fundamentally changing how the world generates, uses and transports electricity. #China recognized the strategic advantages of electrotech early. As the first "electrostate," it now has a commanding position in electrotech innovation, manufacturing and export. But this opportunity is far from over. Other countries and regions still have time to use #electrotech to create their own affordable, secure and clean energy futures: https://lnkd.in/edudcX32

How #cities design #mobility defines how #communities live, connect and grow. For decades, car-centred planning prioritized speed over liveability – but a new approach is emerging. Cities such as Medellín and Montréal are demonstrating that place-based mobility can transform infrastructure into public space, foster community trust, and attract sustainable investment. Through the Pioneering Places Programme, part of the Davos Baukultur Alliance, six cities are reimagining transport as a catalyst for cultural, social and environmental value. Planning for people and not just for traffic can help build cities that move us all forward, say Tom Selby and Stanislas Hillen: https://lnkd.in/eVCNGrmS

When cities shut down at night, opportunity also goes dark. But the 24-hour economy isn’t just about #nightlife, it’s about essential workers, community spaces, culture and #innovations that thrive when the sun sets. By challenging myths that limit our perception of life after dark, we can design safer streets, fairer work conditions and more inclusive spaces for everyone. The night is a shared public resource and a frontier for urban resilience, creativity and growth, Saiful Salihudin (World Economic Forum) and Andreina Seijas (Night Tank ) write: https://lnkd.in/eaRQwwWm

#Cities are confronting a triple threat: the climate crisis, rapid urbanization and rising water insecurity. Innovation is needed, yet solutions remain fragmented and underfunded. A report from the World Economic Forum and Imperial College London, supported by the Hoffmann Fellowship, explores the enabling conditions for water #innovation to thrive. It brings together research from six global cities and presents a new framework which can help decision-makers scale innovation and create lasting impact: https://lnkd.in/em_ee36b

#Water scarcity, air pollution, and extreme weather are just some of the major challenges our #cities face. With an estimated global growth of 2.5 billion new urban residents by 2050, innovation is the key to a more sustainable future for our cities. In #Bengaluru, India, UpLink Venture SmartTerra has developed a water-tech solution that uses AI to detect leaks in real-time, reduce water loss and improve the city’s water security. The Yes Bengaluru, Urban Innovation Challenge, launched by UpLink - World Economic Forum, the World Economic Forum’s Centre for Urban Transformation, the Government of Karnataka, the Greater Bengaluru Authority and a coalition of collaborators, is calling for solutions to revitalize the city and ensure that it continues to grow sustainably and equitably. World Economic Forum hat dies direkt geteilt
The global competition between major economies is no longer only about trade or manufacturing — it’s about who leads in frontier #technologies. As I told CNN’s Eleni Giokos during the World Economic Forum’s #AMGFCC25 in Dubai, the countries that will come out of this decade the strongest will be those at the forefront of artificial intelligence, advanced chips, and other emerging technologies. This is where the defining race of our time is being run — and where collaboration, not just competition, will determine whether innovation serves the many or the few. Business leaders are under pressure to use #AI to increase workforce efficiency and profits for shareholders. But AI is far more valuable when used to build long-term resilience by amplifying human capabilities. Being candid about how it will be deployed strengthens credibility in its wider benefits – from freeing workers from repetitive tasks, to acting as a repository of living knowledge.
