AI has been lauded for its impact on desk-based work – but it has enormous potential to reshape frontline activities, such as construction and #manufacturing, that have so far resisted #digitalization. Frontline #AI could be used to streamline everything from hiring, to scheduling, to coaching – and help break out of ingrained inefficiencies that are harmful in an era of volatile business. The good news? Parity between men and women has increased substantially over the last year. But the less good news is that, at this rate, gender parity is still 123 years away. Only 10 countries have closed their gender gaps by 80% or more – and Iceland, which has retained top spot for the 16th year in a row, is the only one to have surpassed the 90% mark. The Global Gender Gap Report 2025 tracks progress on #genderparity across 4 dimensions in 148 countries. Women's inclusion at work is about more than a moral principle: it has been proven to drive economic growth. How wide is the gender gap in your economy? The planet has achieved a historic first as, in the first half of 2025, #renewables produced more electricity than coal. Global electricity demand actually grew in that time - but a surge in new solar and wind capacity more than covered the increase. In total, renewables' share of the #energy mix grew to 34.3%, while #coal generation fell to 33.1%. Find out more in this video, along with three more recent noteworthy stories from the energy sector. After several years of slow momentum, global progress on the energy transition has accelerated. The World Economic Forum’s Energy Transition Index benchmarks nations on their current energy performance and the readiness of their enabling environment. The rapid development of digital public goods (#DPGs) or digital commons could be a global game-changer. These shared resources are being used across sectors like healthcare, finance and education for wide-ranging potential societal impact. But moving from successful initiatives to sustainable scale requires reliable #financing, robust #infrastructure and specialized #skills. Traditional funding mechanisms often fall short in providing the dedicated, flexible and long-term capital needed to support the open, global nature of DPGs. New models that blend public, private and philanthropic capital could provide the essential fuel for further DPG growth, say Dr. Sreevas Sahasranamam of the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School, and the Forum's Judith Ketelslegers. People want to feel like their organization cares about them as a person, says Oxford Professor @Jan-Emmanuel De Neve. Rising #burnout rates, chronic diseases and shifting #work trends underscore the urgent need for #workplaces to promote employee #wellbeing. The World Economic Forum report Thriving Workplaces: How Employers can Improve Productivity and Change Lives explores how investing in workforce #health generates measurable benefits for businesses, employees and societies. First proposed in 1968, space-based solar power (SBSP) – beaming energy harvested by #satellites down to Earth – is now technically and economically feasible. Able to supply consistent 24/7 power that #renewables struggle with, it could be a new, abundant, sustainable #energy source. What hurdles do we need to overcome to unlock this unlimited supply? Is this city one of the safest places in the world to cross the road? #Helsinki has just gone 12 months without a single traffic death – thanks in large part to a multi-year project to improve traffic safety. Here’s what that programme involved. To best serve urban residents, #transport planning should be embedded within the social and physical fabric of cities. The concept of ‘place-based #mobility’ can help do this, and it’s one of the approaches championed by the Davos Baukultur Alliance, an initiative dedicated to fostering sustainable, vibrant and resilient #cities.
