Planetary health urges us to challenge our societies' status quo and transform our relationship within nature. Beyond health improvement, planetary health presses us to reimagine the conformation of our political, economic, cultural, and social systems. To speed up this process, contributions from interdisciplinary teams representing different geographies and contexts and that represent many ways of knowing are needed.

In this continuous search to advance planetary health understandings to inform and activate the planetary health community and societal transformations at large, the IHTP is dedicating a special issue to the topic of Planetary Health. Within this call, we want to acknowledge that the field of Planetary Health borrows from other fields (e.g., One Health, Global Health, Eco-Health, Environmental Health) and ways of knowing that predate the field of planetary health (some, such as Indigenous worldviews have been around for centuries). For this reason, this call is open to all researchers, scholars, and non-scholars (inclusive of activists, government actors, community partners) working in the intersection of equity, natural systems degradation, and health impacts.

This position paper, written by local planetary health practitioners and initiatives representing all
inhabited continents, intends to contribute to the new WHO strategies on health promotion and
wellbeing by adding the comprehensive perspective of planetary health. It aims to illustrate the
active participation of civil society in global policy development and World Health Organization’s
(WHO) strategy and initiate continued collaboration with the WHO. The paper represents the
voices of local groups and initiatives, as well as some internationally-focused professional
organisations, in a participatory process of global co-production (see Appendix A). Most of the
voices represented are those of young people who work on a volunteer and non-profit basis to
improve social, cultural, economic, and ecological wellbeing in their local communities, by
supporting planetary health, and social justice towards achieving, amongst other things, the
Sustainable Development Goals. The position paper invites the WHO, health promotion
organisations, and local planetary health initiatives to contribute to a global process of change and
    collaboration.

Before the Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak of 2014-2016, Guinea did not have an emergency management system in place. During the outbreak, Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) 2014-2019 funds made it possible to rapidly improve the country's capacity to manage epidemics through the development of public health emergency operation centres (PHEOCs) at the national and district levels. Since the end of the response, the infrastructure, staff, and systems of these PHEOCs have been further reinforced and well-integrated in the daily activities of Guinea's National Agency for Health Security, the entity responsible for the management of epidemics. The development of PHEOCs as emergency management tools for epidemics in Guinea would not have been possible without a strong endorsement within the Ministry of Health. Guinea's PHEOC network is well-positioned to serve as a model of excellence for other Ministries in Guinea and Ministries of Health of other countries of West Africa.
