After Kellogg and KDP splitting up... KraftHeinz is the latest to unbundle. In 2015, Kraft and Heinz merged to create the 3rd largest food company in North America But the move was a FLOP! By 2019 Kraft Heinz had to write down $15.4B in brand value, then sold off Planters ($3.35B) and its natural cheese business (~$3B). Now the company is splitting into two: 🍅 Global Taste Elevation Co. (Heinz, Philadelphia, Kraft Mac & Cheese) — $15.4B in 2024 sales 🥪 North American Grocery Co. (Oscar Mayer, Kraft Singles, Lunchables) — $10.4B in sales This end of huge CPG conglomerates is upon us. Smaller, specialized companies are better positioned to move fast, innovate, and connect with consumers who are gravitating toward emerging better-for-you brands and private label. But I'm excited to hopefully see much better marketing tactics come out of this. Less reliance on mass “one-size-fits-all” tactics like Super Bowl ads. More room for testing, iteration, and UGC + influencer-powered media that can connect all the way from top-funnel buzz to bottom-funnel conversion.

Let’s be honest… Even with all of its incredible promise, certain aspects of ‘regenerative’ are a hot mess right now. In the CPG world, maybe the biggest challenge we face is: 👉 The inability to uniformly define, validate, and label ‘regenerative’ as a product-specific claim. There is a lot of conversation and many opinions on how we can make that happen. But sometimes, I feel like we’re just talking in circles, and maybe it doesn’t even matter?
