Thrilled to share that I’ll be attending the 12th IEEE International Conference on Data Science and Advanced Analytics (IEEE DSAA) this week in Birmingham! I’ll be there representing Frontiers in Big Data and Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence — two dynamic, open-access journals at the forefront of data science and AI research. Frontiers in Big Data is led by our Chief Editor, Prof. Huan Liu — who is also serving as the General Chair of DSAA 2025. It’s an exciting moment to connect the community, spotlight emerging research, and explore collaborations. If you’re attending: 🤝 Come say hello by the Frontiers in Big Data banner 🧑💻 Or feel free to contact me here on LinkedIn to set up a time to chat Looking forward to meeting fellow researchers, authors, and reviewers. See you in Birmingham! #DSAA2025 #Birmingham #Frontiers #FrontiersInBigData #FrontiersInAI #ArtificialIntelligence #BigData #DataScience #MachineLearning #AIResearch #OpenAccess #AcademicPublishing #ResearchCommunity #Networking

📢Frontiers in High Performance Computing are delighted to announce the new Specialty Chief Editor of our Cloud Computing section! Somali Chaterji is an Associate Professor at Purdue who tackles hard, real-world problems across computer and biological engineering. Her group (ICAN, short for Innovatory for Cells and Neural Machines) builds resilient CPS (cyberphysical systems) pipelines and rightsizes them to the target compute substrate to meet strict latency SLOs and energy budgets on "small" devices. She also leads computational genomics efforts for earlier diagnosis and fitness markers. A through-line in her work is cloud performance per dollar---ensuring workloads deliver on a budget---which has led to two USPTO patents (Sophia and OptimusCloud) and a cloud computing startup, KeyByte. A third, ApproxDet, rightsizes video object detection to mobile GPUs while meeting latency SLOs. As an academic and founder-CEO, she’s excited to serve as Specialty Chief Editor for Cloud Computing and to work with a dynamic, impact-driven team. 🌍 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a powerful reminder that early, accurate detection saves lives. We’re inviting submissions to our Research Topic on AI-driven breast imaging. With rapid advances in machine learning, deep learning, and image processing—paired with modern imaging modalities (digital mammography, MRI, ultrasound, tomosynthesis)—there’s tremendous potential to make diagnostics more sensitive, specific, and interpretable. 👉 What we’re looking for: Novel algorithms and methodological advances Validation studies and benchmarking Multimodal image analysis and computer-aided diagnosis Translational research and integration into clinical workflows Real-world clinical applications across the imaging diagnostic pathway 🚨 Our goal is to bring together computational, biomedical, and clinical communities to accelerate safe, effective translation of innovation into precision breast cancer care. Interested in contributing? Please email the Editorial Office at [email protected] or click on the 'Participate in this Topic' link here: https://lnkd.in/eTSVNtie Let’s work together to move earlier, more accurate, and more equitable breast cancer detection from promise to practice. #BreastCancerAwareness #BreastImaging #MedicalImaging #AIinHealthcare #MachineLearning #DeepLearning #Mammography #PrecisionMedicine #Oncology #HealthcareInnovation

How can Europe ensure researchers have stable, secure, and open access to crucial research data—protected from political and commercial interference? This essential question took center stage at the European Parliament’s latest Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA) workshop on Securing European Data Sovereignty: Evaluating Global Dependencies, Risks, and the European Response. We’re proud that our Field Chief Editor at Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence, Professor Thomas Hartung (Chair of John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health), brought his transatlantic expertise to the discussion—alongside thought leaders such as Mehmet Toral, Chief Corporate Officer at Frontiers, who provided important insights. Key takeaways from Prof. Hartung’s contributions: 🏛️ Data Sovereignty means more than servers in Europe—it’s about who decides how data are governed, shared, and reused, in line with core European values like privacy, transparency, and open access. 🧭 Resilience isn’t just technical robustness; it’s ensuring that European research data remain accessible, even in the face of political, technical, or commercial disruptions. 🌐 While Europe leads in vital infrastructures like Copernicus, ELIXIR, and EuroHPC, many critical resources (e.g., PubMed, Crossref, arXiv) are controlled outside Europe—posing potential vulnerabilities for academic freedom and research continuity. 🔑 The answer? Openness and federation. Europe must support independent databases, ensure stable APIs for text and data mining, implement FAIR principles, and mirror essential global resources on European soil. 🤝 This isn’t about “Europe vs. the world”—it’s about ensuring that global science remains transparent, auditable, and accessible for all. 💬 Mehmet Toral emphasized the vital role of clear legal frameworks in supporting the resilience and openness of European research infrastructures, ensuring researchers can rely on stable, trustworthy access to the data that fuels innovation. “FAIR principles and open science are the best safeguards we have to ensure that academic freedom and scientific integrity survive—no matter where we are in the world.” — Prof. Thomas Hartung 🔗 Rewatch the event: STOA Video 🔎 Read the in-depth ESMH interview with Prof. Hartung: Transparent and accessible global data critical for European researchers 💡 At Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence, we’re committed to supporting resilient, FAIR-aligned infrastructures and championing open science—because research knows no borders and academic freedom is a universal right. #DataSovereignty #OpenScience #FAIRdata #AcademicFreedom #FrontiersInAI #EuropeanResearch #STOA #AI #SciencePolicy #ThomasHartung #MehmetToral
