Partnership and collaboration is the bedrock of success. In August, the GMMA alongside IOM Dominican Republic strengthened its commitment and partnerships with two key universities - Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) and Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), to increase knowledge among students and faculty on countering misinformation, xenophobia and hate speech about migrants in the Dominican Republic. Since May 2021, the GMMA has established partnerships with 14 universities globally to incorporate ethical and accurate migration reporting in their curricula. With thanks to the Government of Ireland.

The course will be used to train journalists and communication professionals on the proper and accurate ways to frame migration stories in the Dominican Republic free of stereotypes.

Migration is about much more than movement — it’s about hopes, skills, and building shared futures. Migrants are not threats; they enrich our communities as teachers, artists, builders, and neighbors. It’s time to change the narrative. Let’s listen, include, and grow together. Change the narrative, not migration. IOM - UN Migration
