66 million children. 130 countries. Progress is possible. In 2024, UNICEF and partners reached 66.1 million children and caregivers with mental health support, more than doubling the number of countries involved, from 58 to 130. This is proof that what we are doing is working. The Global Coalition for Youth Mental Health, launched with support from Z Zurich Foundation, brings together private sector partners who believe no single entity can tackle youth mental health alone. With investment, commitment, and collaboration, progress at scale is happening. The challenge now is to sustain and expand these efforts so that every child has access to the #MentalHealth support they need. Mental health – the too often missing piece in emergency responses In disaster zones, we rush to provide food, water, and shelter. But what about the invisible wounds? In her latest op-ed for Euractiv, our Head of Crisis Response, Advocacy and Communications, Manon Parmentier, highlights why Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) must be recognized as a core pillar of humanitarian response. And this is why we have entered a multi-year collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC to support and extend mental health in emergencies. From conflict zones to climate disasters, untreated trauma can ripple through communities, weakening recovery and resilience. Creativity, community, and climate innovation are reshaping life for those living on the frontlines of climate disruption. In Milan, where summer temperatures soar to 38°C, daily life, especially for children, can become very challenging. But parents, city planners, and schoolchildren came together to transform a schoolyard into a green oasis and vibrant community space. The challenges are real, but so are the solutions. The October 2024 DANA floods were among the most devastating in Spain’s recent history. The Post-Event Review Capability (PERC) in Valencia shows us that resilience is not a top-down concept, it’s built from the ground up. Local communities, authorities, and support systems are not just stakeholders; they are co-creators of solutions. When we listen, engage, and act together, we move beyond recovery and towards lasting resilience. 📘 What is PERC? Imagine having to leave school at 15, with no way to return. In parts of India, this is a reality. But something extraordinary is happening. Girls forced to stop their education are now studying again. They didn't just return to class, they came back as leaders, turning rundown buildings into training centers, building playgrounds, and influencing government policy.
