Under the Same Sky: When AI Becomes a Question of Culture Last night, Prague Planetarium's LED dome became a space for one of the most important conversations we can have right now: How do we ensure AI truly serves humanity and culture? 270+ people gathered to explore AI not as a purely technical challenge, but as a cultural and civilizational project that requires voices from technology, art, and humanities alike. Three days in Vienna that proved art-tech research is more than academic curiosity — it's building the frameworks for how technology, creativity, and society will shape each other's future. TAH Centre co-organised the inaugural REACT Conference alongside CultTech Summit, bringing together researchers and educators exploring where culture meets technology. Our contribution centred on a panel emerging from the TransInnovate project: "The Future Worth Living In: AI & Arts-Based Education as Critical Infrastructure." The panel addressed educational challenges as AI enters creative and learning processes. Jan Beseda, Lenka Hamosova, and Tobias Buser were joined by Tereza Stehlikova and Sibylle Moser to discuss methodologies for collaboration between technologists, artists, and humanists — and how educational systems can prepare for this shift. Two projects from the broader conference stood out: 🎨 AI HOKUSAI - Art&Tech Research Project — An international research project reinterpreting Katsushika Hokusai's visual legacy through generative AI. The team created a virtual exhibition spanning 25 km² of digital space, combining artist residencies, public workshops, and research on authorship, creativity, and the human-machine relationship. It's a powerful example of how tradition and technology can generate entirely new aesthetic territories. 🖼️ Talking Paintings — A multimodal AI system transforming museum portraits into interactive experiences. Visitors can have real-time conversations with painted figures, with both cloud-based and offline options addressing data protection concerns. The project demonstrates how cultural institutions can embrace digital transformation while maintaining accessibility and inclusion. The CultTech Summit (CultTech Association) extended these conversations beyond research. One highlight: Laura Callanan from Upstart Co-Lab (USA) leading discussions on impact investment for inclusive creative economies — connecting art-tech innovation with financial sustainability and social equity. Three days of inspiration. A growing network of researchers, artists, and technologists who understand that responsible innovation requires all three perspectives working together.
