- Bernard A. Coyne (July 27, 1897 – May 20, 1921) is one of only 20 individuals in medical history to have stood 8 feet (240 cm) or more. Coyne may have reached a height of 8 feet 4 inches (2.54 m) tall at the time of his death in 1921. His World War I draft registration card, dated on August 29, 1918, lists his height as 8 feet (240 cm). The Guinness Book of World Records stated that he was refused induction into the Army (1918) when he stood at a height of 7 feet 9 inches (236 cm). Coyne was the tallest ever eunuchoidal infantile giant, a condition also known as gigantism. He was the tallest person in the world at the time of his death when, like Robert Wadlow, he was still growing. He reportedly wore size 24 (American) shoes. Bernard Coyne died in 1921. He is buried in Anthon, Iowa, in a specially-made, extra-large coffin. (en)

Le Livre Guinness des Records assure qu'il a été réformé en 1918 alors qu'il mesurait 2,36 m. Il a été le plus grand géant infantile eunuchoïde de tous les temps, sa maladie est connue sous le nom de Syndrome de papa-longues-jambes. Au moment de sa mort il était l'individu le plus grand du monde alors que, comme Robert Wadlow, il continuait encore à grandir. On dit qu'il portait des chaussures de pointure (américaine) 25. Il est mort en 1921 d'une sclérose du foie et de troubles glandulaires et a été enterré à Anthon dans l'Iowa ; on a dû recommencer son cercueil, car celui qu'on avait fait pour lui était trop petit, et il ne rentrait pas dedans.
